Finally finished chapter 3!!! We're at 63k words now šš
Come see Jaskier slowly sinking in both love and war:
The Emergence of the Sandpiper
Ch 3 excerpts:
The rush of a successful performance lingers, the warmth of the wine curls inside him, and Geraltās hands are still on his thighs. He wants like he's never wanted before. It'd be easy, simple even, to close the gap. To press wine-stained lips together. To breathe the other into his chest and hold him there for the night (because he knows he won't be allotted eternity. He knows he'd be lucky to even be allowed the morning).
It's people like this, disgustingly ignorant and hateful people, that cause Jaskier to wish he had the skills necessary to murder all of them. He'd never trade his lute for a sword, but sometimes bloodlust becomes too alluring.
No matter the efforts Geralt enacts to save as many as he can, no matter the length of his training or the strength of his potions or the swiftness of his hunt, there will always be those who are lost. As old as he is, this fact is not one he's grown accustomed to.
... Reading my own writing makes me knock-out drowsy? I don't find it boring or bothersome. It just... instantly makes me sleepy??? I'm fulling enjoying my writing, but I have to fight to stay awake? Hella confused.
saw a youtube short of a guy doing this with his cats that can't stop fucking beefing (i put a screenshot below) and like..... it's them. it's absolutely them.
I want to create a main character that is hard to love, even for the audience.
They have an unfounded arrogance where self-praise drips from their lips for the smallest act, particularly for their looks.
They don't consider others around them, not their situation, worries, nor needs. They can't understand anyone else and they are rude. Indifference and hostility are often how they treat others, and they are often inflexible - unwilling to adhere to others' standards.
They are jealous, covet others' things, and are vindictive. They desire power, to be the one on top.
The focus, though, is that they have never committed evil nor will they ever. Their personality may be garage, but they strictly adhere to all laws. They do not care for "unwritten rules," but they will not disobey the law (even if this means paying the price for laws others typically only get a warning). They won't enforce the law on others and will not seek justice on the behalf of others. But any wrongdoing done upon them, if punishable against the law, will be pursued down to the smallest grievance.
This a huge point of contention for our mc, particularly in a society filled with unwritten rules.
I'd also like their antagonist to be the template of a savior. Humble, kind, gracious, caring, etc. A flawed character, but one that tries to help others despite occasionally causing harm. The savior will try to understand our mc, but how could they? The mc is utterly indifferent to others and will even attack the savior if the savior breaks the laws while affecting the mc.
They may occasionally work together, but most often the mc will disregard the savior.
spent MONTHS looking for this stupid tumblr post bcuz i constantly want to reference it and it wouldn't come up no matter what i searched despite it being (what i thought) was a popular well-known tumblr post only to find that the original blog turned off reblogs and deactivated and that it only got 12k notes total. but im posting it anyway to preserve its legacy
Peter Parker fic rec:
"that death does wait" by good_bones
It's perfect. Not only are the descriptions of people unique and insightful, but Peter's characterization in this is one of my favorites. I also like how Peter is a kid and pre-bite, how he's weak but not pathetic. He's strong, but in will and conviction not taking down 50 bad guys. He has reasonable limits and inability. He's such a compelling, angry little guy, yet kind and wholesome.
Anyways, fabulous fic. One of the "will change your life" ones
Shout out to all the Black ppl that can no longer participate directly in the fandom they love because of the stresses of racism šš¾ you contain multitudes of value and I'm sorry that the color of your skin and the power of your voice makes people not want to acknowledge that.
Yes, nonblack people can reblog. I'd appreciate it, in fact, if y'all took the time to vocally support your Black friends/fans in fandom.

at least now we know why he has yet to return when Britain is in peril
We need a flick where King Arthur wakes in modern Jamaica and is very confused.
I think that would be so much funny. He wakes up on a remote beach in Jamaica and he only speaks/understands Brythonic and Medieval Latin. Locals assume he was a tourist who fell from a cruise ship or received a head injury and floated away from a resort. The authorities cannot match his description to any missing persons reports and his fingerprints and DNA produce no hits on INTERPOL. They suspect he may be Welsh or French because the language he speaks resembles Welsh or Breton but France and the UK both state he is not a citizen of their country. Stateless and deeply confused, he is taken in by the community near the beach where he was found, being cared for by a number of local families and doing odd jobs. He slowly learns English and adjusts to the contemporary world, uncertain if his belief that he is the legendary King Arthur was formed by whatever traumatic event caused him to end up Jamaica or if he is actually King Arthur and Prydain is in eminent peril. Mysterious letters from Morgan begin to reaffirm his belief he is King Arthur. He must choose between staying in Jamaica and continuing the happy life he has made for himself or finding a way to get back to Britain without any documentation.
ancient king white boy stuns locals by ordering in perfect Jamaican Patois
He gets to Britain and everyone expects him to sound like a posh noble Englishman because that is the picture Malory painted but he prefers to speak Welsh and when he has to speak English, he speaks with a thick Jamaican accent.
Hmm... A story with a hidden, long-term theme of the MC slowly changing parts of themselves. This is more of a side plot to the main story.
They start with reversable characteristics: hairstyle, makeup, clothes, accessories.
But then, through science or magic or effort or whatever, they start to change other aspects: hair texture, eye color, lip shape, body shape, bone structure.
And all of these are gradual, one-by-one changes. These are the most eye-catching and obvious indicators that detract from how they are changing their personality, their demeanor, and their behaviors.
By the end, they aren't the same person at all. People who knew them before wouldn't recognize them, couldn't. The character at the beginning of the story and the end of the story are essentially two different people.
I'm curious how happy that character would be. How would they feel about their younger self? If others couldn't recognize them, would they be able to recognize themself?
I need to repair my fridge. I haven't been able to store food for about 2 weeks now.
The company for repair (through home warranty) completely uses ai. You can not talk to a human. Not through chat or call. They straight up deny you that option. Even the techs don't have an operator, they are scheduled/managed through ai.
I didn't realize how dependent companies were becoming on ai. Besides how frustrating this is, I'm more terrified.
My bad. I should have remembered that ai still needs to provide for their ai children, save up for their ai houses, and eventually rely on their ai retirement plans. That's why it makes sense to replace all the customer service agents, the schedulers, the technician managers, and the operators with ai

This is a comment someone appended to a photo of two men apparently having sex in a very fancy room, but itās also kind of an amazing two-line poem? āHis Wife has filled his house with chintzā is a really elegant and beautiful counterbalancing of h, f, and s sounds, and āchintzā is a perfect word choice hereāsonically pleasing and good at evoking nouveau riche tackiness. And then āto keep it real I fuck him on the floorā collapses that whole mood with short percussive soundsābut itās still a perfect iambic pentameter line, robust and a lovely obscene contrast with the chintz in the first line. Well done, tumblr user jjbang8
I hate that my aesthetic sense agrees with this but everything you just said was correct
I went back to dig up this post because I was thinking about poetry.
This is one of those non-poem things that are among my favorite poems.
As the OP stated, the use of alliterative consonants is aesthetically just great, especially the placement of the strongest use at the end: āfuck him on the floor.ā The use of āchintzā is indeed great word choice.
Because Iām insane, decided to scan the poem:
Not only is the second sentence, indeed, perfect iambic pentameter, the entire poem is perfectly metered, though the first sentence has four iambs rather than five.
There are further things I love about this poem, though: I like the casual connotations of ākeep it realā juxtaposed with āchintz.ā It causes me to interpret the āchintzā more strongly as meaning something fake, a facade. There is also of course the coarseness of āfuck,ā which is a contrast with āchintzā but a different kind of contrast, gutsy and carnal where āchintzā is flimsy and inanimate.
And then there is the storytelling: there is SO MUCH storytelling in just these two lines. To break it down: The speaker is having sex with a married man, in the house he shares with his wife, which is āfilled with chintzāāsomething that here connotes fakeness, in contrast with ākeep it real.ā
The illicit encounter in the poem takes place within a house filled with facade, the flimsy construction of the wifeās marriage and domestic sphere, but the encounter itself is a taste of something āreal.ā Thatās a story, and itās just two lines.
This is EIGHTEEN SYLLABLES, yāall. The amount of meaning condensed into these eighteen syllables is stunning, and it is so elegantly done.
From a technical standpoint (and ive taken 300- and 400-level poetry classes so I can say this) this is damn near flawless as a poem.
Kept thinking about this ever since I saw it and had to do something
there's art now
Ah dang to go further; the floor is framed as a refuge. As if there is literally no other space in this house that hasn't been populated by his wife with flimsy inanimate fakery. There is no space for this man in this house save for the floor. There is no space for him on the sofa, oon the counter tops, and most notably, no space for him in the marital bed.
Iād also like to point out the use of the word āhas.ā The wife has filled the house with chintz. She isnāt filling the house with chintz. She doesnāt fill the house with chintz. She has filled the house with chintz. Use of the past-tense makes the wife a subtly removed element in the story, someone whose presence we see in the environment, but who is blissfully distant during the actors throes of passion. There is an element of physical as well as emotional separation from the wife that is catalyzed by being fucked on the floor. Use of the past tense is an end to the wife presence in the actors life, a carnal catharsis amid cold fragility and emotional distance.
This is my new favourite post in the world
