Alright, I’ve had the chance to play around in the nether for a while and I’ve learned more about how this stuff works…

So, while netherite is better than diamonds, it is prohibitively rarer than obtaining diamonds is. The way you get netherrite is by finding these “ancient debris” blocks that generate below ~25 on the y level, (I found they’re most common around y levels 10-16 or so, the lowest I saw them generate was y:7). They look like this:

They generate in ore veins of 1-3, I find that the veins of 3 are quite rare though. I also never saw them visible from the surface, but maybe it can happen sometimes. More often than not it looks like you’ll have to use stripmines just to find them, though.

Once you find a vein of the stuff, I hope you brought a diamond pick, though- they can only be mined using diamond. I tried iron and gold, it’s ridiculously slow with those and they don’t drop, you need a diamond pick.

Once you mine it, you get just the ore form of it, like mining iron or gold ore (so, it’s not affected by the fortune enchant). You can smelt it in a furnace or blast furnace to get “netherite scrap”, which is then used to make the ingots. You need gold ingots as well to combine with the scraps, like so:

Once you’ve crafted up a netherite ingot, the way you use it in crafting recipes isn’t quite what you might expect. Instead of using the ingots directly, you craft tools and armor from them like this:

Yup. You need to combine diamond tools and armor with the ingot to get the netherite stuff.

At the very least, it means you don’t need a ridiculous amount of netherite just to be able to make anything, but you will need a lot more diamonds. Also, before you ask, no you don’t keep the enchantments from the diamond armor if you use enchanted diamond while crafting- all the enchantments are lost when making netherite. That’s ok though, because as the changelog post said, netherite is more enchantable than diamond gear is.

Debug World

The debug world in minecraft is super useful for texture making, and its a neat  little secret in the game. Here’s how to get it:

Start by making a new world

Change the world type to ‘Buffet’ in more world options

Now, hold shift, and click world type again. The screen should look like this:

Now create a new world, and it should be the debug world!

It looks like this:

It contains every block in every blockstate, so you can check if your textures are working properly.

To add to this nightmare, I’ve just heard of a thing called ForceField where people get to monitor and block internet sites that you’re going on if they don’t approve.

It tells the user what sites/apps you’re going on, for how long you’re on them, and WHERE YOU ARE ON AN UPDATING MAP.

So you know if you’re in an abusive household and use sites like tumblr to escape and talk to friends, you could be cut off from that.

They say “it’s not spyware” but it sure sounds controlling and creepy to me.

Life 360 is another tracker. My parents have used it on me, not allowing me to delete it from my phone, and sometimes even demanding selfies to prove I was where the map said. (As if I’d go anywhere without my phone)

SpectorPro is another one. Afaik it can’t track location, but it takes screenshots roughly every 20sec to allow the installer to watch a video of your computer activity. It also tracks all keystrokes, so passwords aren’t safe, and records any website you visit + the duration. It’s incredibly creepy and a huge violation of privacy, and was one of the cornerstones of my abuse as a kid.

Maybe minecraft Steve and Alex are exceptions and weirdos to villagers like. maybe villagers ARE the true average “normal” of the world of Minecraft, and the actions us as players do are weird and eccentric, even “neurotic” to them. Maybe villagers and other creatures can’t ACTUALLY see Endermen at all, to the point of probability ensuring they rarely directly face towards them? What if Endermen are only visible because, we, players - beings higher and above the base reality of minecraft are looking at minecraft … and that’s what They sense and hate… being seen by things from Beyond?

And - just as a thought experiment - what if things like shadow people that people see due to sleep paralysis, PCP, DXM, etc IRL… are approximations or impressions of real things, things that are fundamentally outside our normal viewing perspective, but to a higher dimensional viewer, are as clear as crystal?

I like this! I imagine villagers and some mobs cant even hear the endermen, they can only see the purple particles, and think the creature is just a swarm of tiny creatures that love to try to take blocks (like faries or something). They don’t become aggressive with other mobs because they never can truly look at them. But when the player makes that direct eye contact, the endermen are like “uh oh, this one can see us” and apparently thats not a good thing.
