I was thinking about external factors which prime the agents to be so attached to a spy they barely know (besides him saving their lives and being a Good PersonTM, which, to be fair, weighs a lot), and my friend @stierhai mentioned the fact that they probably don't ever get people back. You lose someone to darkness and they're gone forever, you rarely even get a body to bury. So Grapes returning feels like a miracle that must be held onto. And I think that's probably the biggest factor.

But in addition... this is my more romanticized/indulgent take than a serious one, I think of Kim Soleum as someone who is a lot of first for Jaekwan and a lot of lasts for Choi.

Even tho Jaekwan seems like a pretty experienced agent, he still holds on to a lot of naivety. And at the beginning you can tell he really struggles with what to make of KSE. KSE is someone who proved him wrong about his preconception for Daydream employee. Heck, it might be the first time Jaekwan was saved by a civilian (from committing murders at the Lodge), or be so indebted to someone he was meant to take care of (at Looky Mart). And KSE kept making miracles at each turn, creating situations where everyone lives while disregarding bureau standards. That must have been eye-opening.

On the other hand, Choi has lost a lot of people over the years and you can tell he has doubt in how the bureau has changed. In DER timeline he lost Jaekwan at the lodge and then, like, died not too long after at Looky Mart. Maybe he got reckless without someone to take care of. When he thought KSE was still loyal to Daydream he went on a bit about futility of trusting people. It really seemed like he was at a pretty shaky place in terms of faith in both people and the system. So I feel like his hoobeas really are the last straws for him. He really can't stand to lose anyone anymore.

I mean... to be fair... the reasons which applies to jaekwan does also apply to choi and vice-versa. So my framing is cherry-picking. Still I like to think of it that way cause I think it's cute...

GSGW Part 3 (Agent Choi related)

I don't think Agent Choi can believe that Soleum's home (in the world without ghost stories) exists.

Part 1, Soleum ran away because he wanted to go home. And it seems that he found a way, which Choi heard from the others. Half a year later, he came back worse, turned into an inhuman being named 130666, only to be exploited by THAT CULTISH EVIL CORPORATE AGAIN.

Part 2, Choi couldn't believe Soleum was from an entirely different world. There wasn't any definite proof about Soleum's world, and most importantly, Soleum was acting like he was highly contaminated, even turning into a mindless goop, risking everything.

Everything was against what Choi stands for, but if Choi's precious Hoobae wants to & finds this entire place a disaster, and since his duty is to return civilians home, he must trust them. So Choi did, also risking himself as well.

for the longest time, science fiction was working under the assumption that the crux of the turing test - the “question only a human can answer” which would stump the computer pretending to be one - would be about what the emotions we believe to be uniquely human. what is love? what does it mean to be a mother? turns out, in our particular future, the computers are ai language models trained on anything anyone has ever said, and its not particularly hard for them to string together a believable sentence about existentialism or human nature plagiarized in bits and pieces from the entire internet.

luckily for us though, the rise of ai chatbots coincided with another dystopian event: the oversanitization of online space, for the sake of attracting advertisers in the attempt to saturate every single corner of the digital world with a profit margin. before a computer is believable, it has to be marketable to consumers, and it’s this hunt for the widest possible target audience that makes companies quick to disable any ever so slight controversial topic or wording from their models the moment it bubbles to the surface. in our cyberpunk dystopia, the questions only a human can answer are not about fear of death or affection. instead, it is those that would look bad in a pr teams powerpoint.

While reading today's chapter (388), i could only think about how fun gsgw would be as an rpg horror game, especially with the [SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER] new glasses, it seemed such a game-like mechanic... So fun, despite the side effects.

Anyway, that gave me the idea of drawing a fake rpg maker/style screenshot for funzies, but its still wip.

Also i am severely struggling at drawing Lee Jaheon, i swear ive never drawn a lizard before, I don't understand the shape of their head, and the manhwa doesn't help much, APOLOGIES.

I do still like how it's coming out, especially Kim, i tried using the manhwa as a reference so it's very different from my usual artstyle (maybe even better?)
