Nah brah, look up how many cats and dogs PETA kills annually. In the farms the animals are at least satisfied. PETA practically just bashes the animals with a rock, puts me in a trash bag, then preserves them in freezers, and finally ships them off to mass graves (most of the time landfills)
Right but… How exactly is any of that a good reason for people to continue eating animals? We’re not denying that PETA are shitty, the point is that their actions aren’t a good reason for anyone else to support animal abuse.
Because most of the time animals are happy and recently they have been getting better treatment. Also eating animals is not animal abuse, it is a natural thing that our bodies actually need to do
Sorry what? Need? You realise you are claiming that humans need meat while speaking to a currently alive human who does not eat meat? “Better treatment,” right, ignoring the fact that more of our meat is factory farmed now than ever before, and that things are worse now for now than at any other time in history, slitting an animal’s throat is abuse, so is shooting them in the skull, or grinding them up alive, by any reasonable definition of the word. Treating animals “well” and making them “happy” before you commit that unnecessary and inhumane act does not make it okay, and that is exactly what you pay for.
You realise of course that the claims about PETA are about them killing former pets in shelters, right? That would be animals who have lived relatively happy lives right up until slaughter… Which is exactly the same thing you’re claiming is totally fine when we do it to other animals? Objecting to animal cruelty right up until you benefit from it is laughably hypocritical and blatantly self interested. You want to condemn PETA? Fine, I’ll join you on that one, but using the animal cruelty perpetuated by PETA to justify your own continued support of other kinds of animal cruelty is utterly absurd.
People who say vegans are closed minded and will never change their minds regardless of facts… You do realize…almost every vegan was once a meat eater…who changed their mind (and most likely a majority of their lifestyle)…when presented with facts… Chances are you’re spewing the same wrong shit we used to which is why we don’t care to give it the time of day.

Okay guys, what are some cheap vegan meals that taste good? Start shooting me ideas. Im not the kind of guy that likes weird and obscure berries and seeds, just normal broke people food that can get you from paycheck to paycheck and not ruin your taste buds
So Now I Need Advice from You
Okay guys, so I need some advice...I started dating this guy and he is a nonvegan. I always said I would never do something like that but I just fell head over heels for him and we've been together now for 9 months.........we live together now and everything in the house is vegan and I cook all the food so it is always vegan. Sometimes when we go out to eat he orders nonvegan food, and of course when we aren't around each other he eats animal products...so my question is...what do I do? Am I a hypocrite for dating him? Am I compromising my values or just now realizing that my previous stance was too harsh? Should I remember that we were all nonvegan once and give him a chance? Or is that just settling and giving up? I'm so conflicted please help.

Carnist Facebook post about how horrified they are that a dog was caught in a snare....."We are not mad over the traps." So it's upsetting that YOUR dog was harmed by this but not upsetting that someone would do this to any other animal? How can people not see the stupidity in this?

MY TWO ROOMMATES WENT VEGAN!
I live with my two best friends all the way back from my early childhood and they have watched me on my vegan journey for two years. I have struggled so much living with them and watching them participate in animal exploitation. I can’t even count the amount of times I’ve been looking in the kitchen for something to eat, only to have my appetite ruined by seeing a block of cheese, a gallon of milk, or a bag of frozen chicken. I have always been unapologetic about my veganism and the reasons behind it, so they both knew the horrors of animal exploitation and they knew that this exploitation could not be justified, and starting in 2017 they both went vegan! I am BEYOND excited! Yesterday they got rid of ALL of the animal products in the house!!!! Let this be an an example for all of the vegans struggling with friends and family that are carnists. Do not give up! You are really making a difference!

We can no more justify using nonhumans as human resources than we can justify human slavery. Animal use and slavery have at least one important point in common: both institutions treat sentient beings exclusively as resources of others. That cannot be justified with respect to humans; it cannot be justified with respect to nonhumans—however “humanely” we treat them.

I was having an argument about "why we should drink milk" and someone said "because it hurts cows when we are not milking them" Is that true?
Yes and no. Many dairy cows are bred to produce much more milk than they would need to feed their offspring, not to mention they are then pumped full of hormones to make them produce even more. It is quite possible that a cow in such a condition would be in pain if she had too much milk. The first and most obvious solution would be to let the cow feed her calf, but there is also a far more important solution that always seems to slip people’s minds. We could STOP BREEDING THEM. I mean seriously, nonvegans have the nerve to pretend as if they have simply found these cows who are in pain and they graciously relieved it for them. Completely forgetting that the only reason those types of animals exist in the first place is due to our breeding of them. I am also baffled at how they do not see the blatant hypocrisy in making such statements. On the one hand they say they are concerned for the animal’s well being and that is why they say that they consume milk, but what about the fact that dairy cows are treated cruelly and have their young taken from them? surely that causes some damage to the well being of the cow. Are they concerned about this? And of course there is the most obvious problem that dairy cows are slaughtered for their meat once their milk production is no longer at a profitable level. This clearly causes harm but they don’t care about this either, so this is not in any way a real expression of empathy and compassion by carnists, but a flimsy justification used to calm their conscience and (attempt to) assuage their guilt.
Vegans who feed their dogs and cats (and other CARNIVOROUS animals) a vegan only diet should be reported for animal abuse and be put under arrest for making their companion animals sickly and prone to disease since animals that need a meat based diet should never be mistreated. Funny how vegans who starve carnivorous animals preach against animal abuse but starve their poor pets to death.
For someone who finds it acceptable to cruelly raise and slaughter animals just for your own taste pleasure, you sure do seem concerned with the well being of animals…Like, I honestly do not understand how nonvegans do not see the irony in this point when they try to accuse vegans with companion animals as animal abusers. You say vegans should be the ones arrested for animal abuse, but nearly every law that prevents cruelty to animals has a specific exception in it which excludes farm animals. They are treated HORRENDOUSLY so why are you not all up in arms about this mistreatment?Hypocritical much?

STOP SAYING THAT BEING VEGAN WILL MAKE YOU LOSE WEIGHT
1. It is not true. Eating certain vegan foods with a planned out diet along with a certain excersize routine along with certain genetic factors will help you lose weight, but the same can be said for many diets that include animal products but that doesn’t mean eating animal products makes you lose weight, so this is irrelevant. (Oreos, skittles, twizlers, sourpatch kids, pringles, and coke are vegan).
2. It’s fucking fatphobic. As vegans, we believe that exploiting animals is immoral and therefore we abstain from consuming products produced by exploiting animals (and encourage others to do the same). By spreading the lie that veganism inevitably leads to weight loss, you are perpetuating and reinforcing a common stereotype put onto “overweight” people in our society...that they are immoral. Many people already hold the bias that there is somehow something morally wrong with being fat, but claiming that vegans are all thin and in “great” shape goes all the way through with the idea. This amounts to saying fat=animal abuser instead of saying carnist=animal abuser...which has nothing to do with weight at all.
3. THERE ARE FAT VEGANS YOU IGNORANT FUCK.
I was discussing the enviromental factors of factory farming with my dad (a very rational and smart guy) and he said the solution to some of the problems would be to feed the animals concentrate and keep them locked in all-year. How would you respong to this? He grew up on a farm and I don't think he would care for how unethical that sounds, but he does care about the enviroment.
Growing up on a farm does not prevent someone from caring about animals. There are tons of stories about people that used to slaughter animals becoming vegans, and I am almost 100% certain that your dad cares about animals. If he were walking down the street and saw someone gleefully kicking a dog over and over again, what do you think he would do? He’d probably be horrified because he thinks that animals have moral value and they shouldn’t be harmed just because it gives someone momentary pleasure. The key is to show him that this is no different than killing an animal for a burger. Too often vegans waste time arguing about the best way to reduce your carbon footprint or which diets are healthiest which are side issues. Instead of demonstrating that if animals have ANY moral value, then we cannot kill them for personal pleasure, we end up in drawn out debates about which farming method is best for the environment. If tomorrow someone discovered a method of raising and slaughtering animals that did not in any way harm the environment, would it suddenly be okay to eat meat, dairy, and eggs? Of course not. It would still be just as immoral.
It may seem hopeless, but in my experience you’ll have much more luck discussing the obvious moral problem with exploiting animals than you will arguing about the greenhouse gas emissions produced by the animal agriculture industries.
I’d highly recommend you check out books and lectures by awesome abolitionist vegans like Gary L. Francione to learn more about this.
Carnists will literally appropriate human suffering (poverty, chronic illnesses, worker exploitation) only to justify another horrific form of suffering while simultaneously erasing vegans who live with these types of suffering and the human rights violations inherent in the animal agriculture.
And then they have the fucking nerve and audacity to call us “not being compassionate enough towards people” for being brave enough to speak about a form of suffering that is largely unacknowledged and belittled and point out people’s complicity in this system.
