sorry I’m headcanoning a universe where #Yuna is an even more avid snake person, her and Shane bond over it and so everything is the same as the HR timeline except during the parent meet up after the cottage and Shane is explaining things to his parents by the door Ilya jumps a foot in the fucking air because SHANE WHY THE FUCK IS THERE A SEVEN FOOT SNAKE ON YOUR PARENTS COUCH WHAT THE FUCK and Shane is like oh that’s just Alfredo she likes the feeling of the couch on her belly

and Ilya has to make a choice if he’s going to marry into a clearly INSANE family (Yuna has like 13 ongoing habitats)

i'm 400 chapters into 'welcome to the nightmare live', and wen jianyan is such a little bastard man, i love him.

he's coward and a thief. literally every word that comes out of his mouth is a lie. he will gladly risk his life to save his teammates, and then also lie about it. he's a hedonist and a gambler. he will cheat you out of your entire life savings and not feel a speck of guilt about it. if anyone touches any of his people, he will gladly kill them. he's the smartest person in every room. he's reckless, and every decision he makes is so fucking stupid. his love interest is some kind of eldritch overpowered god. he's stabbed that same god in the chest thrice so far, two times in the middle of a make out session. he's definitely into bdsm and, based on the way he continuously compares his love interest to a dog, possibly also into puppy play. so far, he's conned three different god-like existences and made them dance to his tune. he canonically wears custom-made frog slippers and t-shirts that say 'fuck off', in english. it's unclear whether he even knows english, but if he did, he would definitely know how to swear. the one time his love interest tried to do the yandere keep-him-to-himself bullshit, wen jianyan gave him a handjob so good that his brain leaked out of his ears and he completely forgot that none of wen jianyan's words can be trusted. this was after the first time he stabbed him, but directly before the second. his teammates would die for him in a heartbeat. they want to punch him in the face every time they see him. one time, he drove a man to depths of uncontrollable rage by giving him a gift basket. it was filled with strawberry candy.

I know this is mostly just a fandom fun thing but in reality I don’t think Ilya is saying shit about Jane to the Bears. And more importantly: they would not actually give a fuck. Marly cares a little because he goes out to pull with Ilya and and he never comes out in Montreal and it’s mildly annoying since Marly can’t speak French AND is missing his wingman AND has the handicap of playing for Boston and so his hit rate plummets

But yeah mostly I promise you guys the Bears players would not give a shit about Ilya’s sex life. People mostly don’t actually give a shit about their coworkers sex lives

i love love loooove 'better than the fucking yankees' because shane's not just some hockey-obsessed jock, he's a straight up jock across the board. he's an all-rounder!!! he's a hockey player, and hockey players literally spend like 80-90% of their time talking about all the other sports they're watching. he watches sportscenter like it's the nightly news, has the baseball on in the background all summer. he's showing up at the olympics for sports simply because he knows the athletes, and as a top canadian athlete with his level of marketing and sponsorship, he's met and knows A Lot of athletes. he's getting invited to grand slam tournaments. he's reading all those high performing athlete biographies. he has an opinion on who's going to win the super bowl, who looks good in the nba, which teams will do best in the world cup, who's in form for the masters. in tlg he's participating in the great canadian pastime of putting on some late night australian rugby/aussie rules just for the sake of having some live sports running in the background. he and ilya put the tennis on later in the book for the same reason. that boy is a fucking jock!!!

It always baffles me when people think Shane would be constantly annoyed by Ilya's antics and bravado. Like, Shane? Shane Hollander? The same man who started salivating when rookie Roz said he was going to score 50 goals? The man who gets so hard over Ilya sexting him right before a game that he could storm into the visiting locker room and ride his man right there? The same Shane Hollander who happily accepted a blowjob while his best friend tried to have a deep and genuine conversation with him about his wife's difficult pregnancy? Nah, that dude is a peak enabler who loves his asshole husband.

I really find it fascinating how the HR fandom tends to frame it like Ilya doesn’t experience homophobia. Like sometimes people will address biphobia (often only from Shane, which feels….hmm) but there’s like this really strange working assumption in this fandom that in a scenario where they’re both outed Shane is getting constantly harassed and bullied for being gay and Ilya just isn’t

I honestly can’t make heads or tails of it, like I guess it goes back to the whole weird fandom thing where people thing the general public would somehow x-ray vision and know that Shane is the exclusive bottom and also decide that because Shane is the bottom Ilya isn’t really gay? Somehow? Like does fandom think that homophobia is exclusively tied to penetration because uhhhhhhh

I mean I know what this actually is is another layer of hetero dynamics being thrust on Hollanov in that because fandom wants Shane to experience misogyny he’s the one who experiences the proxy (homophobia) while Ilya (the man) doesn’t but it’s kind of incredible how widespread it is
