I think people don't understand how important libraries are. Not only do they have so much information, art, and stories stored inside of them, they are the home for many. I was a very scared lonely child. My days were spent inside libraries. Homeschooling left me without proper education or socialization but the library filled that space. And as I grew into a teenager I became more afraid of who I was, but the children's librarian saw that. She saw me. Subtly she started recommending me queer books. And I read them. She gifted me a copy of Nimona for my birthday because it meant so fucking much to me. I remember the day I cut my hair and told her my name. She hugged me as she was crying. She was so proud of me. Libraries are important for people who have nowhere else to go. And Miss Katie, I doubt your on tumblr.com but if you are- Thank you for being my mother when I needed one.
