naruto is so funny bcs the whole thing is just twist villain after twist villain. and like the first few times, even most of the times, its well written and suprising, but. after a certain point....

Like we find out about Orochimaru in the chuunin exams. At first we don't know who he is, or anything about him. We don't even know what he looks like because he's in disguise. Its setting him up to be a huge villain, the guy who craves chaos and war and has no ethics, the problem for the rest of the series. But then! We find out he used to be part of a greater organization of villains, and their boss is probably even stronger and more dangerous- and he wants to create chaos and war for even darker more mysterious reasons! So that turns out to be Pain, who turns out to be Yahiko, who turns out to be Nagato. But actually he wasn't even the real leader of the akatsuki, it was really Tobi the whole time. And Tobi was actually Madara who was actually Obito. And they're gonna put the whole world under genjutsu- oh no! Except actually Obito fails at this because- he was being used the whole time! By the real Madara! Who's the real villain! Except Madara was being used the whole time! By Black Zetsu! And Zetsu was doing it all for Kaguya, who's evil because uhhhhhh..... she's a woman and.... an alien... and she ate the forbidden fruit? Ok whatever.

Honestly, ever since becoming a fanfic writer myself I’ve become like 500% more understanding and patient about other authors’ update schedules. An author takes 6+ months to post their next chapter? Yeah, totally get that real life can get in the way. An author abandons a fic? Disappointing, but it happens- sometimes inspiration for a story just dies. An author apologizes about taking so long to post a 10k word chapter? Dude, that’s like 18-20 pages on Word single-spaced. It takes me at least a week to write an essay for school a quarter the length of that, and that’s with a deadline. 

It’s probably the most important thing writing fanfic has taught me, tbh. How to fully appreciate the hard work someone else has put into their story. How important the role of the audience is to an author. And that no matter what, you are never entitled to demand more of a story that you are getting for free.
