elaboration under cut:

- Don’t ask what I mean by divorce. It’s not really a single event and more like a slow erosion of their relationship.

- I’m gonna be a bit of a contrarian and say I do not think the dark sides were inheritly familial or had a similar dynamic to the light sides. I just don’t think it would work for their functions and how Thomas perceives them. I imagine they have/had a bit of an “Us vs Them” mentality, and they were probably closest in the earlier days (like how we saw the baby sides in WIDS) because all they really had was each other. Each of them were still finding their footing, trying to figure out what (and who) they really were (a headcanon of mine is that the dark sides probably took longer to develop their own identities compared to the light sides because they were so repressed) and suddenly they were being shunned simply for doing their jobs! And if those “light side” jerks are going to push them around, the least they can try and do is stick together (which eventually led to a real bond!). I really think their relationship was less of a genuine familial bond and more of a “these are MY people so I gotta stick by them no matter what.” They’re like a weird codependent high school friend group

- The exception to this is Virgil because HOT TAKE I DONT THINK HE WAS EVER THAT FAMILIAL WITH THE DARK SIDES (with the exception of Orange)!! At least not on the same level as with the Light Sides. Close? Absolutely! But much of that closeness was built out of circumstance rather than a genuine friendship. The amount of vitriol on both sides always gave me the impression that they… never really had a super positive relationship. I (and a friend) believe that Virgil was actually alone for a very long time and only joined the dark sides (despite being quite afraid of them) because 1. He believed working with them was the best way to protect Thomas, and 2. He wanted companionship. As they all grew, Virgil probably rejected the others the same way he does in canon (“they’re evil and can’t be trusted”)

- I think that (outside of my Orange and Virgil theoryslop) that Janus and Virgil were the closest because they had very similar methods to protecting Thomas (hiding!), while Remus and Virgil probably fed into each other’s worst traits which made them weird codependent sort of friends, and Janus and Remus felt as though they could be themselves around each other without judgement

- If I think about who actually “formed” the dark sides as a group, it was 100% Janus (he’s Repressionmaxxing), but I like to imagine Orange was like the heart of the group and kept them all together. He was very lonely.

- If I had to give them actual family roles? Janus is the crappy wine aunt who gets saddled with his three plucky orphan nephews. They sort of hate each other but they learn to coexist through the Power Of Love or something

- The only dark side (former or present) Orange even remotely likes anymore is Remus, and that’s pushing it

- They don’t miss each other but they also don’t DON’T miss each other. Secret third thing

Sanders Sides Dogs!

Here we go, guys!

Have some doggos~ I recently rewatched 101 dalmatians and lady and the tramp, and I started thinking about what dogs each side would be XD

Some were easier to decide than others, really. Roman was the first one I decided on, it's easy, a little white Pomeranian with a big boy complex XD

Janus as a dalmatian to fit the scales on the side of his face and stuff made sense, and I kind of worked around the eye thing as well - yes, I know dogs don't have yellow eyes, yes I gave him one anyway, and I kind wanted it to look like he may be blind in that eye? IDK really.

Logan was quite obvious to me as a pinscher again, not sure why but he seems really stoic and stuff, but can be both playful and have a temper when it comes down to it XD Plus - like with most of these - it just fit their aesthetics so well!

In my 'sides as animals' posts (can't remember if they were here and/or on tumblr? But I know I had patton as a Labrador, but I think if they were all dogs and not just him then he'd be a beagle. Just a big softy baby with floppy ears XD

Thomas then took the Labrador spot because he'd bubbly and excitable and stuff, IDK it just fit him too well and it's how I imagine him being to his friends and stuff :')

Remus was a bit trickier but then I realised it's kind of a simple option when you think about it, a demented chihuahua XD He just fit it so well, and then he and his twin would be similar breeds, both small but with big personalities haha

And finally, I couldn't really decide what to make Virgil? And then I thought, well, mix breeds get a lot of bad flack but are great and need more love, so I figured a cross breed would work well for him. Then I had to decide which ones to do XD I kinda settled between a husky, a 'teddy bear' dog (like a cockapoo or something equally overly-fluffy!) and some wolf/retriever/something else? for him? I guess? XD Honestly I'd have a Hienz 57 like this if I could, he looks so cuddly and yet somehow menacing as well :')

I may do Emile and Remmy and stuff at some point? I was tempted but I completely forget TBH XD I've been sick, leave me alone haha

I see myself as a husky sorta person, really, though I grew up with Staffies in the house :3 My best friend, however, says that I'm like a border collie because it matches my aesthetic, and I'm bouncy, excitable and overly-energetic (Thanks ADHD XD) and get distracted easily, but I'm lovable and loyal all the same :') Cheers mate.

Janus wasn't sure if he hadn't noticed anything, or if he simply refused to notice. To see anything wrong with his old friend.

He may not have known the anxious side too well anymore, but he wasn't stupid. He did wonder how the others hadn't seen... Perhaps it was his role in Thomas' life that made it easier for him to see, despite it taking so long.

But he couldn't keep pretending, passing it off, lying to himself...

Something was wrong with Virgil. And he might be the only one that can help.
