I was working on creating a news feed for videos and images and came across the issue of needing embedded YouTube videos to resize responsively to a container. After I got it working with jQuery, I created this simple tutorial in case anyone else runs into this issue.

Lizard People: Lords of the Media

I backed 100 Swords and loved the quality and art on the cards. I’m excited to add this party game by the same creator to my collection so hopefully it gets backed. The thing I’m most excited about this game is tracking “score.” Usually with party games like this, you keep the judge card as a point. In this game, you are actually given body parts and ultimately the winner is the one who can construct a person.

I was extremely excited to find this in my mail yesterday! Rocky Road a la Mode was a game by Green Couch Games that I backed on Kickstarter a while back. I am extremely impressed by the game quality and size. The main ice cream truck pieces are made out of wood and the folding game board is very sturdy and only slightly larger than a playing card when folded. This is going to be my new go-to travel/cafe game!

Rampunctious: The Game of Terrible Puns

A game for 4+ players about making the best, most or worst possible puns. Making your friends cringe is an added bonus.

This game has 30 days left on Kickstarter and looks like it has a lot of pun-tential! My friends and I get a kick out of puns and for that reason have obsessed over movies like The Naked Gun and Airplane for years! I hope this game ends up getting backed because it looks like an awesome addition to our game-night repertoire.

I have been using mostly bootstrap navigation bars, but have been finding that the side sliding navigation is popular on mobile. I found a very simple, free jQuery plug-in to use for creating this type of navigation. It took about 15 minutes to incorporate this plug-in into my website and it works well on desktop and mobile. The library is called Slidebars.

When I was previously coding with PHP, I had posted about PEAR templates which I enjoyed using to abstract the logic from the visuals in my code. However, now that websites are expected to be more interactive and provide instant information, I sought out a template solution for JavaScript. Most of my websites use JavaScript (AJAX) to call a service which pulls back data in JSON format. Instead of having muddy JavaScript which includes HTML, I plug the JSON right into a mustache HTML template. View my tutorial for a quick introduction to Mustache. Mustache is available for many different languages, so if you learn it for JavaScript, you can easily apply it to PHP or other scripting languages.
