In the advent of longer, unskippable ads online, my new favorite game is muting the ads and trying to unmute the video without seeing the company name or product they’re trying to sell me.
used to think advertisements were just annoying but harmless but more and more every day i am growing to consider them a great and terrible evil
Muting the ads you can’t skip is a bit of a game changer. I refuse to let loud, obnoxious marketing seep into my unprotected earballs.
Why is it on Tumblr Mobile™ you can close the app and open it 3 days later and still be on the same spot of your dash, but then other times you switch out of the app to respond to a text, and when you immediately come back, it’s gone, your family is gone, your house is gone, your dignity is gone.
this website - the "everyone here is notoriously already broke" website - has been funneling thousands of dollars to various gaza gofundmes. and then the "required" amount per person got raised, and then gofundme and the finance sites wouldn't release the money, and then the crossing got destroyed and no one can get through. and even when something reaches its goal, I've never actually seen a "success story" about someone getting out or getting their family of rafah because of it
serious question, has any of this mattered? did anyone actually get out because of a fundraiser? have we been doing anything at all other than laundering money for corrupt border guards? is this a better use of donations than, say, the esims? or donating to aid orgs? or any other way of trying to help?
"and i know the gofundmes here can be overwhelming"
here's the thing. fuck being overwhelming, fuck getting exhausted seeing the fundraisers every day, none of that matters. my only question is, have people actually been benefiting from it? not in a "I think someone is impersonating people and scamming us" way (I trust the verification work people have been doing), but in a "is this actually going somewhere" way. if every single "$5000 x number of people" fundraiser got filled up to the maximum, would it make a single bit of difference?
most of the families that made it to egypt before the border was destroyed by israel did so through funds raised by gofundme, including ahmed @90-ghost on tumblr, at least four people i know personally, and maybe hundreds more i know through acquaintances or i've seen on twitter. if you donated to these campaigns you would know this because they usually post updates saying "good news! we were able to get x out of gaza, but now we're trying to get the rest of our family out, so we've upped our goal to x."
most of the campaigns remain open because they will try to get the most vulnerable members of a family out first, after which they will try to get the rest out.
since the border was destroyed right now people are being displaced internally, which means instead of the money going to corrupt border guards it is used to buy tents, buy medical supplies, buy food, or rent some of the few units still standing in different areas within gaza. basic foodstuffs in gaza now can cost up to 200USD. and it is only getting worse and more extreme.
the only entries and exit are through israeli crossings now that egypt has no control over. egypt could be bribed. israel can't. they have a small list of injured children they occasionally evacuate through israel-controlled crossings and airbases, but just so you understand how this is also part of the genocide and how israelis use any excuse to allow more people from gaza to die, netanyahu froze one crossing as a 'retaliation' for the bombing of (syrian, arab) children in majdal shams that no one has actually taken responsibility for.
other crossings were out of use for weeks because israel allowed settlers to block the aid trucks going into gaza, until the rafah border was destroyed and these blockades were no longer necessary.
they also consistently close the single humanitarian corridor, kerem shalom crossing. yesterday it was open to deliver 80 bodies of unidentified dead palestinians to be buried in a mass grave, today the "humanitarian route" is closed until further notice.
if the border was still open, you would have more feel-good stories and you would be confident your money was going to evacuate people (also known as ethnic cleansing. i hope you understand that this best-case scenario you're referring to, this hope you want to cling to, is forced displacement of people who have lost their homes and who may never be able to return.)
but israel destroyed the border. people are still raising money to register their families for once it does open, but there is no guarantee of when that will happen, and most of the money ends up used so they can survive their current displacements within gaza.
there's a lack of feel-good stories because it's a genocide. that's all. this has been nothing but ten months of torture and slow death and closing every avenue for survival to gazans. now you know what that means.
anyway you should donate to e-sims for gaza because those are also running out
Block the writing-prompt-s blog. I don't care if you like them I don't care if they're important to your ability to practice your creativity. They chased a genocide survivor off of tumblr with harassment and baseless accusations. This is a serious fucking problem and it's more important than 1 writing prompt blog.
They also run drawing-prompt-s and badjokesbyjeff for those unaware
This is already getting more notes than I anticipated so here. And Ahmed got the help of another blogger to make the announcement that he will not be returning to tumblr due to the hate and harassment he received in no small part thanks to writing-prompt-s' harassment and then this is the best that his little shitfans have to say:
I cannot emphasize enough how much white people have obssessively played the victim of hate campaigns and false accusations while LEADING them in this situation. Fucking laughable trying to paint "the largest blog on here" as a victim of a witchhunt for skepticism. Motherfucker went out of his way to shit on a genocide survivor and helped the mob chase him off the platform. White people will never ever ever take responsibility for their actions.
They're in dire need for NOMAD esims in Gaza! Please refer to the website on how to buy esims
PSA for potential esim buyers:
buying esims is a bit more involved than some may realize-- there are different plans available (1GB, 3GB, 5GB, 10GB), all different prices, all of which expire, meaning that you need to continuously replenish, or "top-off", someone's data plan once the esim is activated
(well-- it's not "needed" perse, but having a plan expire means the esim user must go through the arduous process of activating a new esim- which as stated above, are in extremely limited supply
maintaining an esim may not be feasible for everyone. if that's the case for you- i strongly recommend putting money towards crips for esims. this project not only purchases esims, but keeps 3000+ esims active on behalf of their donors
Crips for eSims for Gaza is a collaboration between Jane Shi, Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha, and Alice Wong.
I've never watched a single episode of spn but I've been thinking about the implications of being stuck inside a meme
After this whole horrific ordeal targetted Palestinians with vitriol, I want to spotlight the fundraisers of Fadi Ayyad and Bassel Ayyad, the fundraisers that were targetted by the anti-Palestine mass harassment campaign on tumblr.
Bassel Ayyad here was accused of being a bot and subsequently I asked people to get refunds, but these accusations have proven untrue after another round of identity verification. His fundraiser is very low on funds!

And Fadi Ayyad, his cousin, was the one who recommended him to me in the first place. When this whole thing went down I asked people to pause fundraising until I provided verification updates. He's completely legit and he's very close to his goal! Help him cross the finish line and we'll be able to concentrate all of our efforts on Bassel's fundraiser!

Hard to watch the “Our Car” scene in Good Omens 2 without noticing that Neil Gaiman thinks refusing to take no for an answer is cute. At first I thought that Aziraphale repeatedly stepping on the toes of other people’s autonomy was intentionally creepy, but now it seems like art was snitching on its author, which it is often wont to do.
So please bear with me, I promise this was written with love and empathy for both the victims and the fans.
I’m not telling anyone what to do with their time or money. (If I did, I would say that you should donate to the myriad of Palestinian Go Fund Me’s that are floating around Tumblr if you can afford it.) But I say this with kindness: anyone who thinks they can separate the art from the artist is deluding themselves.
That’s not how life works, and it’s certainly not how art works. A good artist is willing to rip themselves open for the sake of their art, because hiding in the dark messiness are unspoken truths that will give your work authenticity. The reason that some art feels vapid or like a soulless cash grab is almost always that the artist did not dig deep enough into themselves to find a truth worth sharing. Neil Gaiman absolutely understands this, and he is particularly skilled at finding beauty in his own darkness.
There are a lot of responses you can have to the people who have come forward with accusations. Some of those options are detrimental to your sense of empathy and critical thinking skills, but they might assuage any guilt you feel about enjoying Neil Gaiman’s work. Burning all his books and moving on is another option, which is easiest for people who are not that invested in his work to begin with. Some fans need to do this so they can sleep at night, and I would never argue that they should change their minds.
But for those who are undecided and still struggling, there is at least one option for processing your feelings: dialectics, which is a philosophical method for engaging with life’s messy contradictions.
Summing up the inner conflict of a Gaiman fan might look like this:
You are a good person.
You like Neil Gaiman’s work.
Neil Gaiman is a bad person.
If you like Neil Gaiman’s work, you are a bad person.
That feels rudimentary, but on a gut level I'm sure this feels true to a lot of fans. Good and bad are vague words that create an unhelpful dichotomy, so let’s be more specific.
You do not support predatory behavior.
You enjoy Good Omens, a story that means a lot to you.
Neil Gaiman is a co-author of Good Omens and the show runner for the TV series.
He has also admitted to predatory behavior.
So how do we reconcile those two truths?
First, you need to accept the truth.
Live in that discomfort for a bit. So many people never learn to embrace their emotions, and we end up hiding unpleasant thoughts under the rug instead of dealing with them. “Separate the art from the artist” is a rug under which we hide unpleasant emotions.
Second, let’s think about the victims, and why they chose to speak up.
From what I gathered from the podcasts, some of the victims spoke up because they wanted their truth to be heard. Neil Gaiman silenced them with sketchy NDAs, allowing him to twist the narrative in a way that protected him and left his victims powerless to defend themselves.
In Claire’s case she lamented that Scarlett had searched for previous victims and found none. Had she decided to do the podcast sooner, Scarlett would have found her story. Neither of them would have been alone. They have a shared trauma, and together they can find support, validation, and possibly even justice.
We should honor all of those things. They deserve to have support, validation, and justice, and the easiest way for us to help them is to amplify their voices. Amplifying their voices not only makes space for other victims to speak up, it is a warning to the vulnerable people around him to protect themselves.
He preys on his fans. We are a pool of potential victims for him.
My personal belief is that if you choose to stay in the fandom, you have a moral obligation to keep talking about the victims. Neil Gaiman’s work is still gaining fans, and those fans might not know he’s been accused of predatory behavior. If you stay in the fandom but never speak about it (or worse, defend him), you are simply feeding the machine that gave Gaiman the power to assault his fans and silence the employees he abused. If those who stay in the fandom keep talking about it, then every new fan has a better chance of hearing the testimonies of Scarlett, K, Claire, Caroline Wallner and Julia Hobsbawm.
Finally, Crowley and Aziraphale are not people; they are a collection of ideas crafted into the shape of people, and with every new piece of fan art those ideas mutate just a little to become something new. Head canons get shared and become fanon. Thousands of people create more art inspired by fanon. That inspires more head canons that become fanon, and so on. Frankly Death of The Author is more than just a way to analyze art; it’s figuratively and literally the end result of mythology.
My favorite thing about Good Omens is that it is essentially about dialectics. Their love is a messy and confusing contradiction to those who still exist in the false dichotomy, but it’s their truth. Embrace the truth, find empathy, and make choices that help you sleep at night.
Claire (she/her) uses a pseudonym to share her story about being groomed and sexually coerced and manipulated by world-renowned author Neil
To the Neil Gaiman fans who’ve chosen not to listen to the Tortoise podcast because the creators are terfs, here’s a completely unrelated podcast with a nonbinary host speaking with another one of Neil Gaiman’s victims.
Claire says hearing Scarlett tell her story on Tortoise was heartbreaking, because she’d also searched Google for any allegations and came up empty. She then chose not to tell her story after a conversation with Gaiman convinced her that he was sorry, and that he wasn’t a serial predator.
I hope everyone traumatized by the actions of this man finds peace, and I hope all potential victims hear these stories and protect themselves from him.
under the yankee American regime, they aren't even permitted to use a measuring system. the totalitarian DPUSA forces all citizens to measure in burgers and football fields. and it's not even real football. they aren't even allowed to count in real football fields. just their reverse engineered propaganda version that exist only to make tourists think they are happy. it's terrible.
