"This story actually stemmed from a dream I had of a werewolf fighting off a bunch of [Klu Klux] Klansmen. And that imagery was pretty intense, but I didn't know what to do with it so I sat on the idea for a while. And it wasn't until I started to do some research into the Klan — more specifically around Obama's inauguration — that kind of stemmed the idea for the story." - Jeremy Holt, Author

And if you have been following that, it has pretty awesome implications for education because we could probably greatly reduce the number of special ed. kids with this brand new biological technique.
Mill River School Board Chairman Brownson Spencer, talking about a new process that allows the genetic material of three people to fertilize a human egg instead of two - a process that may help parents avoid certain serious birth defects.
Some people in the community aren't so thrilled with Spencer's remarks.
Early one snowy January morning in 2002, a lone man with a gun robbed the Berkshire Armored Car Company terminal in Rutland. The crime netted the perpetrator $1.9 million, and 13 years later, despite a number of leads, no on has been charged in the case. The daring theft was the biggest robbery in Vermont history.
Marijuana legalization in Colorado had some unintended consequences for some of the state's four-legged residents:
“These animals are miserable,” Steele says. “They just don’t know what’s happening to them. They’re frantic – their eyes are dilated but they’re looking around like the world is coming to an end. And it can last hours to a couple days sometimes.”

The law limits in-state tuition to 40 percent of out-of-state tuition. In other words, out-of-state tuition must be two and a half times more than in-state. The 40 percent rule is specific to UVM. Vermont was supposed to provide money to UVM to make up for the discount. Over the 56 years that this rule has been in place, this has not happened. Now out-of-state students are paying for it.
Here's some great reporting from the University of Vermont student newspaper, The Cynic, on a decades-old law that some say is causing out-of-state students to be priced out of UVM.
Vermont's Shadow Budget:Â How The State Forgoes $1 Billion In Taxes Each Year
As they work to close a $100 million budget gap, there's a whole lot of foregone revenue lawmakers aren't looking at, in part because tax breaks are not part of the annual budget process.
Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge lies in northern Utah, where the Bear River flows into the northeast arm of the Great Salt Lake. The Refuge protects the marshes found at the mouth of the Bear River, providing a critical habitat for migrating birds. More than 250 species move through this area annually by the millions to rest and feed, including ground of burrowing owls pictured here. Photo by Katie McVey, USFWS.

In 2014, the state of Vermont, the number one producer of maple syrup in the United States, began using a new maple syrup grading system developed by the International Maple Syrup Institute (talk about a sweet job).
A for effort, and for everything else, apparently.
