"I need to stop starting fandom projects so I stop disappointing people."
it's okay to disappoint people
it's okay to work slowly
it's okay to let yourself rest
it's okay to drop projects
Stop treating yourself like you are the workers at a fast food franchise.
Your writing is a hobby, don't let it turn into a source of guilt, shame and frustration instead of a source of joy.
Errors Accessing AO3
We are investigating reports of errors when trying to load AO3, including errors saying that AO3 is down, which seem to be related to the previous incident. We will update when we have more information!
Posted: 22:36 UTC 02 March, 2026
AO3 is now fully down. After performing a software upgrade a few days ago, we've been unable to keep our server cluster healthy due to what we believe is a bug or issue with the new release of our database server software.
We're working with our vendor's support team to understand the cause and whether reverting or upgrading further will best resolve the issue without continuing the cycle of up and downtimes.
We do not currently have an estimated time for when we will be back up, but we expect it to be multiple hours at minimum. We apologize for the inconvenience and will update you when we know more.
For updates refer to our status page.

with ao3 down i hope this reminds us of what a fanfic-less existence looks like. don’t take it for granted! because it sucks not to have it.
fanfic would not exist without the hours of free labour from fanfic writers and volunteer staff. donate to otw if you have the means. taking a second to give kudos is nothing compared to months of work for writers. a comment will probably make their whole day! sharing and reblogging spreads their work. it’s so discouraging when you give your heart to something, only to receive nothing in return.
support fandom creators and staff. they are the heartbeat of everything we enjoy.
I'm happy to announce that based on the feedback from this survey, @xxsycamore and I will be facilitating a fandom wide collaboration event!
Starting from the day this post goes live, you can begin creating and posting your fandom works (fanfiction, fanart, headcanons, mood boards, etc) following the list of prompts at the end of this post.
This collaborative event features prompts from our previous challenges, in addition to new ones. We will be accepting older creations from previous challenges as well!
You don't have to follow the order of the prompts and can create as few or as many works you want to!
AUs, NPCs, Suitor x Suitor, Suitor x MC, Suitor x OC, Suitor x Reader, Suitor x NPC are all allowed. You can find a gif and normal version of the banner below that you are welcome to use for this challenge!
The tag for the event will include #love chronicles creative challenge. Additionally, please tag both of us hosts ( @xxsycamore & @voltage-vixen ) in your creations so that we can see and reblog them. If I reblogged your piece, it means it was included on the final version of the Masterlist.
Targeted towards but not limited to otome fandoms. (IkeSeries; ToT; MLQC; MysMe; Voltage; Obey me, LADS, Love Unholyc, etc.) All other fandoms are welcome to join in!
Remember not to stress over posting dates and do only as many as you wish! We’re doing this for fun :)
I will create a masterlist featuring all works as well as their creators. The deadline is March 15th. If I reblog your piece, that means it's been included in the masterlist. Please send one of us a dm if you notice your piece has been missed!
This is an 18+ event given the nature of the prompts below, so MDNI. Suggestive works will also be accepted.
You are welcome to combine prompts.
Both our DMs are open for your questions, and you can also send an ask here on my blog, where other people who might have the same question will be able to get their answers too. We'd love to help!
We can't wait to see your works inspired by the challenge! Happy creating, everyone! ❤
Under the cut you'll find the list of prompts typed out for your convenience 🔽
a reminder all of us (including myself) could use
maturity in fandom space is understanding that people will have their own characterization and interpretation of the fictional characters you love, sometimes you will see their opinions on your favorite fictional characters that you don’t agree with or outright believe is wrong, but instead of getting into an argument with them or insulting them, you choose to scroll past things you don’t like and mind your own business. it’s all play pretend anyway. I promise you it won’t affect your life in any way, shape or form if a random stranger doesn’t sympathize with a misunderstood villain you love (and I say this as a villain lover who loves and sympathizes with so many misunderstood villains)
let’s keep fandom a kinder and less toxic space.
I agree with this wholeheartedly. Fandom should be a space where people are allowed to explore, interpret, and enjoy fiction in their own way without being policed for it. Different characterizations, headcanons, and sympathies—especially toward villains—are part of what makes fandom creative rather than stagnant.
You don’t have to agree with someone’s take to respect their right to have it. Scrolling past what doesn’t resonate costs nothing and preserves everyone’s peace. At the end of the day, this is shared play with fictional worlds, not a moral referendum.
Let people enjoy their misunderstood villains. Let others dislike them. There’s room for all of it. Fandom is healthier when we mind our own business and let others have their things.
It's OK to dislike something but it's NEVER OK to harass people because of their opinions or preferences about fictional characters.
I dislike many things in the fandoms I join but I don't want those things to disappear. Because something I hate may be enjoyed by a lot of people. And fandoms are generally more fun when we have diversity.
Plus, it's much easier to scroll past something I dislike than to click on the profile, go to the DM, and type a bunch of hateful words to that user.

nothing but love and respect to all fanfic writers
in 2026, remember how GOOD writing feels. remember how satsfying it is to get your characters to the point you have been dying to get to, where they will experience the love, fear, relief or whatever the feeling you want to bring to life may be. let this year be the year of writing, prgress and of satisfactory endings.
you're not turning your fandom hobby into a job are you? giving yourself deadlines and quotas that you have to meet? focusing on the numbers instead of your enjoyment of the act of creation?
you're not taking your love of something and using it as a tool to hurt yourself are you? loving it so hard that you forget to take care of yourself? telling yourself that people only care about you because of what you make and that they'll stop if you take a break? pushing yourself to work instead of rest so that the thing that used to give you joy and energy is now also burning you out, like everything else?
❝ What’s the point of bots mass commenting on people’s works on AO3? What do they get from doing this? ❞
Besides trying to get your personal information and/or get you to “commission” them (you will almost certainly not get what you paid for, or it will be just AI-generated stuff), the only reason I can think of as to why these bots would do this, is because they want to use/steal your works to train their AI, and in order for them to avoid getting a copyright strike (since the works you create are YOUR OWN—even if it’s fanfiction of other people’s copyrighted characters—you can absolutely copyright strike anybody who steals your fics), they want you to delete your works off the internet.
Once the original material, which in this case is your fic, is deleted, it becomes way more difficult and complicated for you to claim ownership of your own work. Because it’s already been deleted. There’s no proof that you posted it first.
The bottom line, the bots are trying to get you to delete your works so that it would be easier for them to steal your works to train their AI without getting hit with a copyright strike from you.
Don’t delete your works.

Fandom Need All of These
Person who is Insane About Drawing Those Characters
Person who appears to do nothing but write while their life is going to shit
Person whose brain appears to be running a low-level analysis of the media 24/7
Person who reblogs practically everything they encounter about media
Gif-Maker 9000
Person who just shares hearts in group chats
Person who has been working on something they share snippets of every six months or so, which will be done "soon" they promise
Person who emerges from the fog every eight months or so to share one (1) fic
Said this to a dear and much-loved friend today, but I think maybe we all might need to see it:
Long-fic is not the rent you pay to be a part of fandom.
Fic, full-stop, is not the rent you pay to be a part of fandom.
Art is not the rent you pay to be a part of fandom.
Constantly creating is not the rent you pay to be a part of fandom.
Fandom is a community, not a corporation, your productivity is not a payment you have to make to be here.

Writers' Resolutions
A bunch of resolutions for writers and people who want to try writing this year. It's in no way something you must do, these are just ideas how you can set out to improve your writing in the new year.
Try something new
Try to write something you have never written before.
Write something silly, write something serious, write in a different genre, try to write characters that you haven't explored yet.
Write consistently
Writing consistently will not only give you exercise to become a better writer, it can also keep your voice as a writer consistent.
If you have a first draft, write it down quickly and without big breaks inbetween.
Don't wait for inspiration
Waiting for inspiration to come can take forever. So don't wait for inspiration: search for it.
Make writing into a habit that comes natural to you every day, look up writing prompts, read a book you like, get yourself into the mood to write and do it!
Do your research
As a writer, you need to know about a lot of different things.
You can do research by reading books, listening to podcasts, watching movies, talking to other people, etc.
Take this year to learn something new and then tell your reader all about it.
Edit that draft
We all have that one story we wrote a while ago and then stopped at the first draft.
Take it and reread it and then rewrite it. You have a new perspective on it now and maybe this will be the year you turn your idea into a book.
Set yourself a goal
This explicitly doesn't have to be a goal about how many words or pages you write.
Your goal can be to finish something, to edit something, to write a few sentences every day, to share more of your writing or to publish something.
Don't compare
Try not to compare your writing with that of someone else.
Writing is about finding your own voice and telling a story that only you can tell. Also: other people's accomplishes don't diminish your own!
Write!
Whatever the outcome of your writing may be and whatever you want to do with it, if you want to publish it, if you want to share it with friends, or if you want to keep it to yourself: just start writing!
Do what you love to do.
To all my lovely writers, I wish you a great year, may everything work out in your favour!
- Jana
to all the fic writers out there- whether you get 5 notes or 500 notes, 1 kudo or 1k kudos, no comments or 20 comments- please know how appreciated and amazing you are! fandoms are forever grateful for the continued stories and adventures, and none of that would be possible without you. thank you fic writers, we love you!
