they don’t teach people with EDs how to actually respond to diet talk because to do so would mean cultivating and embracing rage. you can’t do that within a medico-psychiatric industry that mandates compliance at all costs. I would very much like to start a workshop for channeling & expressing rage, including and especially toward carceral institutions and authorities, for ppl with EDs… like I want to teach you how to terrify your doctor
Genuinely being a self advocate is 99% channelling pure rage
#HOW are u supposed to respond???#i get hit w diet talk all the time at work and i hate it i hate it#but im sooooo bad at feeling and channeling rage. how do u self advocate!!
with people who do not have medical/economic/carceral power over you:
walk away/physically remove yourself rather than engage
"i am not interested in your thoughts on my lunch"
"I am not interested in your thoughts on my [or someone else's] body"
"did she gain weight?" "it isn't our business/it isn't relevant to you."
"why are you eating that?" "because i'm hungry."
with doctors:
"i choose to decline my weight" (you can always choose to decline your weight as an outpatient)
"i am requesting a larger blood pressure cuff in order to receive an accurate reading"
"i am here to discuss [x]. my time and yours would be better spent addressing my present concerns, rather than speculating on others."
"i am not interested in discussing my eating habits, because it is not currently a priority to change them."
these scripts are YMMV. people are horrible, doctors are abusive, and not all situations can be escaped. grey rocking, putting up an affective/communicative wall for all but the most basic/removed exchanges, is a technique many people use with abusers until they can safely remove themselves; this can be helpful, too. but these scripts are perhaps a starting point to shut down and redirect harmful diet/weight loss talk & refuse social pressure to surveil other peoples' bodies and your own.

I think it’s normal for people to be mad at each other sometimes even if they’re close friends or family or intimate with each other. Like I think that’s a normal and healthy part of relationships that can happen sometimes
“Why were you on Mad At Me island” because at the time I was mad at you and yet our friendship has weathered that without trouble
I went to Mad At You island because my feelings are my problem. I needed to stomp down the beach until I could sit and watch the sunrise. I built a sandcastle and did some thinking. Then I boarded the good ship You Matter To Me and sailed it all the way to meet you on the Let’s Talk Shore of I Love You Island.
Anyone can be discarded by society
People get made fun of for being scared of aging but it comes from the very real fear of being discarded by society that’s why i always say the goal is not to never become old or disabled the future comes for us all the goal is better social policy

Every time I apply my oestrogen gel because of menopause I think "there is a trans woman somewhere who is also sitting in her underwear post shower waiting for the gel to dry before she finishes getting dressed" and I feel happy and a sense of kinship and camaraderie with her even though I am not a trans woman or even trans femme in anyway
But I know how to apply the gel because I saw posts from trans women how to apply it and I feel that even though are reasons for using it are different that we are not so different
So for any woman or non binary person out there who are sitting post oestrogen gel application and scrolling on their phone as they wait for it to dry...we are doing this together and this genderqueer person lovee you
"There's a literacy crisis and its not the fault of the government under funding education it's actually the parents fault for having to work multiple jobs during an economic crisis and not have time to teach children what they're not learning for 6-7 hours a day at school, 5 days a week. Also, I think certain people shouldn't be allowed to have children, like if they're poor/stupid. If you disagree with me you're illiterate too" - Every other post about this damn subject istg
while I agree parents should be helping teach their kids things and keep an eye on their education, but I think its so disingenuous to say its entirely the parents responsibility to teach their children when those same children are inside a building most of the week that's sole purpose is to teach them things by people who got degrees in teaching children things. You can see the state underfunded education has created for schools but turn around and put the entire blame on the parents?
also ofc addressing the fact that when this subject is brought up it's almost always just a short hand to say "everyone else is stupid, except for me!" rather than genuine concern on peoples education.

being black in any art community is such a strange feeling cause you’ll see just blatant racism being expressed in others art and you have to just casually ignore it, for your sake if anything, colorism being something that’s just fundamentally there in every artist and you deal with it cause it’s not worth it in the end to even think of it too hard let alone even mentioning it, it’s definitely something
Hello nonblack reader of this post, I think you ought to share this one so that you and your peers can actively remind yourselves 1) of how your Black peers feel when you tolerate antiblack racism in your art spaces for entertainment and 2) that we notice it, but don't believe it is secure around enough of you to bring it up 🙏🏾
My mom is a psychologist. A phenomena that is very well documented is "silence as consent". If you do not ever speak up about something, people are neurologically programmed to understand you approve of it. So this is not "oh why are you assuming I didn't notice it's problematic" or "wow why aren't you giving me the benefit of the doubt?" This is the brain's pattern recognition. "Oh it's not that serious" it very much demonstrably, provably is.
So instead of becoming defensive or wanting black people to shut off a basic part of their brains, you can solve this by not tolerating antiblack racism.
Some days I wake up with a hollow ache in my chest and the cruel but gentle realization that there is no evidence of me in my own life
A vast area of the Bellingshausen Sea should be covered by sea ice by now, with one expert calling the loss of ice ‘depressing’
He said this was the third time in four years that sea ice had been very low in the region. “I don’t think we will see sea ice there any more. It’s done,” he said.
Thirty-year-old Tamara Rees shows us what trans empowerment looked like in 1954. She fought Nazis, taught parachuting, and traveled the world... but her biggest challenge came when the press learned of her identity.
1950s news coverage of Tamera Rees' transition shows a time before the trans moral panic. Most stories regarded her as brave or heroic for her openness. National newspapers even celebrated her wedding in 1955.
The New York Daily News, which now hosts daily anti-trans editorials, ran a shockingly respectful series on trans people in the 1950s. Tamara Rees's narrative was among the longest and most detailed. She thoughtfully implored the public to respect not only her identity, but also other trans people like her.
Tamara wasn't the first famous trans woman of the 1950s, nor was she the best known. However, she had a unique opportunity to share her own story. You can read Tamara's 1955 autobiography, Reborn: A Factual Life Story of a Transition from Male to Female, at transreads.org/reborn
