Is it okay for me to feel close to a place that I barely know?
If you are a woman, imagine this :
You are at home watching TV and on comes an advert. It features a young man having a drink with his male friends when they see a charming woman enter the bar. The man walks up to her and tries to seduce her but she ignores him. He looks back at his friends who are laughing at him. Suddenly, he leaves the bar and comes back later on with his hair dyed blue. The woman instantly throws herself at him, kissing him and all the men in the bar are stunned. “Go blue” is the name of the hair dye brand, for men only. The next day on the radio you hear another advert promoting blue hair for men in which a woman explains why blue hair gets her instantly turned on. Going on Facebook, articles are shared : “10 reasons why men with blue hair are the sexiest”. Another article is titled : “why women are turned off by natural hair colour”. Yet another article from a website called “OpenMindNaturaScience” explains why women’s brain is pleased with the colour blue and how this colour makes them happy because of biological reasons. On the subway, a poster shows a sexy man with blue hair running away from dozens of female models who all want a piece of him. Day after day the medias keep focusing on women’s preferences, especially their attraction towards the colour blue and blue hair. And little by little, all the men around you dye their hair blue. The bus driver, the customer, your boss, your friend, the man on the street. They all have different shades of blue hair. Some are even dressed in blue, buy blue cars, wear blue make up.
And you see all these men and start thinking : “They’re so obviously trying to please us women, they know that’s what we like, this is all for us. Look at this guy with his blue shoes and blue hair, obviously trying to get our attention… and this guy at work who pretends he doesn’t like me, he’s wearing blue nail polish, he’s trying to look tough, he might not even like me but he’s still trying to please me. They’re working so hard to look good for us, this guy is rude but look at his blue hair ! He knows his place deep down. I go on the subway and I see all these men with blue hair, obviously responding to our desires, obviously interested in seducing us. All this time and money and keeping it perfectly blue every day. They think about us all the time. They are desperate to be liked by me. They ARE for ME.”
And that’s how men see feminine women.
stay vigilant. there are still people out there who will try to convince you that eating fruit is somehow bad for your body
I wish I took a better pic of this writing in a bar bathroom in toronto bc I think of it so often. Be So Completely Yourself That No One Is Attracted To You Or Wants To Employ You
I know you’re sad, so I won’t tell you to have a good day. Instead, I advise you to simply have a day. Stay alive, feed yourself well, wear comfortable clothes, and don’t give up on yourself just yet. It’ll get better. Until then, have a day.
legit the best advice i can give you: feed your friends
any time someone is in any kind of crisis or upheaval, offer to feed them. tell them they don't have to choose what it is if they can't make decisions, just ask about allergies and preferences and tell them you're just gonna make food happen at their house.
friend having a baby? delivery gift certificate to order food to the hospital after the kid shows up.
someone's relative passes away? offer to make them dinner.
buddy gets laid off? ask if you can order them lunch.
pal stuck in a depressive episode? offer to drive them to fucking mcdonalds, if that's what they want.
people in crisis are tired and sad and angry and the last thing most of them are doing is thinking about feeding themselves. so if you have the ability or time or money, providing that is always, always a good move.
legit i do this all the time, and it is 100% always appreciated. i have taught all my friends that when something happens, we feed each other. it makes people feel extremely cared for, and I cannot recommend it enough.
Right after I reblogged this I found out a friends’ mom was hospitalized — this is such a good reminder
If you can, provide disposable plates/utensils and save them from doing dishes — when my husband was diagnosed with cancer, bulk paper products were our most appreciated gift
the best thing about the internet is that you can do this even if you aren’t close- if your buddy lives in idk Japan, you can find their favourite takeout place and have them send food to their house. You can order a pizza for someone in Guam while living in Minnesota. There are no limits. Feeding your friends is unleashed.
Thick thighs are glorious ok.
idk who needs to hear this but it’s healthier for you to just accept that you’re gonna be kinda fat than it is to live the rest of your life miserably trying to monitor yourself to maintain a skinny weight your body doesn’t want to hold onto
“nothing tastes as good as skinny feels” what feels even better is living a life where your self-worth isn’t entirely dependent on your thinness and you don’t constantly monitor and shame yourself. attaching the tweet that was worth at least five hours of therapy for me
ohh my god but what if there is still time. what if there is still time. hey. there is still time? there is still time. have you heard. there is still time. hi. there is still time. did you know. there is still time.
how r u gonna call them love handles and then try to convince ppl thats a bad thing. insane to me
my advice for women is eat more, shave less, and do whatever the fuck you want
you can't girlboss your way out of the humiliation of performing femininity. miniskirts are supposed to humble you by having you stay alert to them riding up and exposing you. high heels are supposed to humble you by having you move carefully, wary of twisting an ankle (or stumbling and exposing yourself). make-up is supposed to humble you by having you control your feeding and resting habits, lest you smudge it. there's sexualization imbedded in them. they are SUPPOSED to embarrass you, because the ultimate titillation is the assertion of control over you. you can't desex them.
You ever think about how particularly insidious it is that women are expected to wear makeup, heels, and often figure flattering skirts in office settings, especially if the woman is high-ranking at her job? Like, the purpose of heels is to make your butt and legs look sexier. The purpose of makeup is to make you look more attractive. Impractical pencil skirts are hard to move in, but highlight your figure to look more appealing than loose slacks. It makes sense on some level to wear makeup, heels, and form-fitting clothing when going out to a club or whatever bc you're trying to look attractive.
But the fact that women, who should be focused on appearing professional and competent, are often expected to dress in a way that makes them more sexually appealing to men while they're just trying to do their jobs really reveals how women are viewed in the workplace and society at large. His job is being a manager or lawyer or executive or whatever. Her job is to do all that while looking pretty for the men.
Yup. I will be transitioning to a significantly higher-ranking job in the fall, and when I told my current boss about it, his assistant goes, "ha, I guess you're finally going to have to start putting on some skirts and pantyhose!" I wear formal court attire everyday but yes, I do not own any skirts and I wear suits (blazer and slacks) with plain oxfords or loafers. My friend who used to dress VERY butch 24/7 got promoted last year and now in her picture on LinkedIn she's in a low-cut top, bold red lipstick, and stilettos that frankly I would break a knee trying to walk in. It's been demonstrated that when women are put in sexually revealing, humiliating outfits, we do worse on tests that involve reasoning and logic. It takes up so much brainpower focusing on not accidentally exposing yourself, not smudging your makeup, not breaking an ankle, and just feeling so uncomfortable and unsafe. Because the evidence bears this out, I personally am convinced that the expectation that we dress revealing and sexual when we rise through the ranks is to prevent us from rising too high. Well, too bad. I'm not changing my wardrobe for my new job and they can deal with it.
