1) Gender dysphoria is a mental illness, being trans is not. You do not need dysphoria to be trans.

2) Saying that being trans is a mental illness validates people saying that its a delusion or unnatural, and is literally the argument that people use for conversion therapy. I know y’all don’t support that, you’re just unintentionally validating those beliefs. Trust me, this is the argument that actual transphobes who think I belong in conversion therapy have used against me.

3) I’m very dysphoric, I just know that some other trans people aren’t.

theyre not really comparable either, i dont think being trans is a mental illness, i think gender dysphoria is though because of its neurological root and because its treatable. being gay isnt and has never been a mental illness, people have said it is but it doesnt have the kind of evidence that gender dysphoria does to be able to say its a mental illness :))

Gender dysphoria is an illness, I agree with that. But saying that being trans is inherently medical is problematic. It implies that there’s something wrong with just existing as trans and that it’s unhealthy. You would *hope* that if people wanted to find a “cure” to being trans, they would realize that transitioning is the way to treat dysphoria, but unfortunately, it’s very evident that many people think the cure is to try and convince them that they’re cis.

I’m not saying that dysphoria isn’t an illness, it definitely is /nm. But that’s a big part of the problem with saying that you have to have dysphoria to be trans, using brain scan arguments, and other medical arguments. If you medicalize the idea of being trans, people will try to find “cures” and do, like, eugenics shit. For the record, I’m not blaming truscum for people doing eugenics shit or any of that, I get that’s not y’all’s goal in any way. It’s more of an unfortunate side effect?

also it’s important to point out that you can have sex and a sexual relationship without any dominance/submission dynamic at all. like... you can just be having sex. i can not stress enough how much your preferred sexual position is NOT inherently linked to dominance or submission.
