I love how when Shallan is being watched by cryptics in TWoK it’s terrifying and mysterious. And then you actually get to know cryptics and you realize they were all just watching her like a bug they found under a rock.

The other night husband and I were watching a documentary about the yeti where they were doing DNA analysis of samples of supposed yeti fur, and every one of them came back as bears.

Anyway, the next night we watched a thing about some pig man who is supposed to live in Vermont. People said it had claws and a pig nose but walked upright like a man. Now, I happen to know that sideshows used to shave bears and present them as pig men. So every piece of evidence they gave of this monster sounds to me like a bear with mange.

So now the running joke in our house is that everything is bears. Aliens? Bears. Loch Ness monster? Bear. Every cryptozoological mystery is just a very crafty bear.

Bears. They’re everywhere. Be wary. Anyone or anything could be a bear.

I’m not Christian, I don’t go to church anymore, and my pastor died, but when he was alive I’d sometimes go to his sermons and I remember one time he said “it feels good to hate, but we know that it isn’t allowed, so when we’re told that we’re allowed to hate someone we get so excited that we forget we’re supposed to love”, and if my humble atheist ass might borrow some church talk I’d like to perhaps submit that

i think its really cool the parallel between pax augustus and lysander au lune, like both are raised by sovereigns but in an opposite way.

Lysander was raised by grammy Octavia, with a coldness a Sovereign must yield and a brutality no child should go through, yet was raised for longer by Cassius, whose idea of the hierarchy and his perception of Golds, should have shaped Lysander into someone like Pax. The compassion for other colors, the want to help those weaker than them—Lysander only learned those things only to turn it around and twist it into a way to manipulate and rule. Just like Octavia.

Pax, on the other hand, has more reason to be like Lysander. He has watched people worship his father, and also beat and berate and almost kill him. He has watched his mother tortured and mauled during the DoRD, while being kidnapped himself. All more reason to hate the Republic. Yet he is raised by Virginia, a Sovereign that can wield a coldness akin to Octavia’s, yet knows better when to wield it. She is a mother to Pax as well to the Republic. Pax is somewhat abandoned by his father, because of the war he created. Yet at the time in his life that Lysander went with Cassius, Pax already has so much compassion and character because of who his parents are; Darrow and Virginia. He went to the pilot school to learn to fly ships and jets to be ready to fight in the war at eleven years old.

this freak lysander couldn’t even try and save some lowColors when the Archi was attacked by ascommani, and instead chose to save the one gold… and he’s double Pax’s age.

idk i find the parallels great between the two sovereign kids, and how vastly different they are because of who raised them.
