Headcanon with no proof below the break

Early in The Timeless Child’s life the resentment and negativity from Tecteun, their adoptive mother, experimenting, torturing, and outright killing them to crack the gene for regeneration built up so severely in The Timeless Child’s mind that they bi-generated an entirely separate person to cast their feelings out (Hence why bi-generation wound up being a myth in the first place). The Timeless Child was able to endure and move on by excising their most negative aspects from their mind. Tecteun would not allow the split generation to be killed because it was the only other truly immortal child, yet the bi-generation required mind wipes and severe methods of mind control to keep it sane as the worst personality aspects of The Timeless Child made manifest.

The split-off half developed a love-hate relationship with The Timeless Child as time went on. At times loving the future Doctor as if they were one, other times loathing them like they were inherently better than it ever could be. Despite the efforts of the Time Lords the bi-gen never fully stabilized.

When it came time for their future incarnations to choose a moniker, The Timeless Child chose “The Doctor” as a reflection of its intent to do well. The other half though? The one who on some deep level felt and remembered the abuse that The Doctor cast off during their bi-generation? It chose a name reflecting its desire to never be subjugated again. It never wanted to be a slave no matter what heinous, abhorrent deed needed to be done. It demanded that from hence forth it only be known forevermore as “The Master”.

I am from San Francisco and my first anime was Gunbuster.

Ok technically, it was RoboTech and SuperBook as a kid in the 1980s but renting subtitled Gunbuster in the mid 1990s on VHS from my local comic book store when I was 16 was the beginning of my actual descent into maddness.

So during a moment of hyperfixation I looked up the etymology of Belinda and Chandra. Belinda most often means beautiful, pretty, flexible, or even snake. Chandra tends to be considered Moon based on a deity it is associated with. SO her name means something like: Beautiful Moon or Serpent Moon and I have literally no idea if RTD put any thought behind it or her name was just mashed together by the writer’s room. Either way, this bit of info now gets to live in y’all’s head for the next six weeks along with mine while we wait to see if it has any significance to this season’s overall plot.

The amount of pure joy I feel anytime Alan Cumming plays someone in Doctor Who. He slayed the house down as King James and absolutely killed it as Mr. Ring-A-Ding’s voice.

They could write a whole season where Alan plays a different character each episode and I would live.

Y’all I would love to see this! I think one way they could do it is that 9 and 12 would be a little unsure of each other at first. They would wind up in a situation where 12 tries to prove to 9 that humanity is less good than 9 wants to believe and 9 conversely wants to prove to 12 humanity is better than he thinks. Towards the climax of the episode 9 would have some crisis moment where he goes through something that makes his faith in humanity falter; 12 would be the one to lead 9 through it and show him in the end that humanity is worth fighting for. It would be a beautiful multi-doctor special.

oh my god this is years late but everyones perception of kerblam is literally wrong??? when the doctor said the "system" wasn't wrong, she meant automation? not the company? like the concept of automation isn't inherently wrong (there is a good point for making dangerous and menial tasks automated) and it wasn't trying to hurt people. And when she said the people exploiting the system were wrong she meant people exploiting automation (including charlie, who was using it to kill people so the system would take the fall. the doctor even points out he isnt an acitivst, he's just killing people). the metaphor is a bit fumbly. but it was never pro company/amazon?? the episode ends with a focus on the company being people led. man, i dont think ill ever not get annoyed with the way people bring this episode up to make series 11 look bad.

As we wait for “The One Who Waits”

There has been a lot of talk about “The One Who Waits” coming into the current season of Doctor Who. My current headcanon is that this “God” will be none other than the incarnation of Death. Not sure what other cosmic force could strike fear into the Toymaker and the Maestro. A refrain in the show as that “Death waits for us all/comes for us all…someday”, and maybe that day is approaching this season.

I have a feeling that Death will also resolve some questions about The Doctor’s parentage. In Chibnall’s run of the show the incarnation of Time was introduced and did not seem to be intimately connected to The Doctor in any way (beyond their prisoner on Atropos). The Timeless Child lore established The Doctor as the source of regenerative energy, a Demi-mortal with an innate ability to cheat death. With Time out of the running for a godly parent, Death seems to be the most logical source for the ability to live through any fatality as an inborn trait of our favorite wanderer of the universe. I am imagining that Death cared for a mortal in Universe 2 enough to have a child with them, which would render The Doctor a literal demigod.

I am not sure if Death will be a congenial parent for The Doctor, considering they were left abandoned at the edge of the known universe; however, if The Doctor was initially with their mortal parent for their first few years of life as a toddler, perhaps they were sent into Universe 1 on accident through some fatal event that killed their mortal parent. Maybe Death has been looking for their child in the wrong universe (as Chibnall established that The Doctor came from Universe 2) and through all the chaos of the last few seasons, has become aware that their child is in Universe 1.

After thinking up all of the above I looked into the episode titles of this current season and the finale seems to be named “Empire of Death”, naturally I am quite excited to see how that plays out against my own ideas.

Okay y’all so I have been thinking about the finale since Friday and the more I puzzle on it, the less I believe Ruby’s fairy tale ending was genuine. I of course was a big proponent of the “Ruby is River’s daughter theory”, but I am starting to be one of those people who think she is an unknown member of the pantheon. More specifically, I think she may be the daughter of The Trickster, I’ll go into why.

Let’s start with Ruby’s “mom” in the flashback, her hooded face with humanoid lips visible gives me serious Trickster vibes from SJA. A constant lament was “WHY CAN’T I SEE HER FACE?” Well, The Trickster really doesn’t have much of a face aside from ruby-red lips and sharp teeth. Honestly, why would a 15 year old have such an ominous cloak and where did she get it between the maternity ward and abandoning Ruby at the church? Granted a 15 year old still high on painkillers from giving birth could definitely do some zany shit, but it seems like a stretch to me. If my hunch is somehow correct, I would go so far to say that in the time window they did not see Ruby’s parent crying under the hood, but rather laughing maniacally. In fact, I honestly thought she was laughing when I first watched that scene. If the “mom” is actually The Trickster, then he would definitely have been laughing as he takes great pleasure in messing around with The Doctor and their companions.

The Trickster is the god of traps, which typically involves some narrative that a person falls prey to in order to be ensnared by the trap set for them. Ruby as the child of that entity could totally be able to create narratives that people would happily believe and become a part of, or to put it succinctly: a story. It isn’t any further of a stretch than the god of games having a child that is the god of music.

I think as the season went on, Ruby subconsciously created her own happy ending and bio parents piece by piece. Finding her parents seemed to be a process of creation as it unfolded. The DNA scan in 2046 only showed Ruby’s DNA twice. After defeating Sutekh though, 2024 UNIT was able to seamlessly find some ordinary and flawed woman eager to reconnect with and apologize to her abandoned child. Her bio mom is even willing to reach out to a presumable one night stand from 20 years ago, catch up with him, and see if he wants to become a father figure after two decades. Also the origin of Ruby’s name through a street sign that seemed to not exist in the footage, until it suddenly did, felt like an actual change to the timeline. I have nothing against this ending per se, it just all felt deliberately too perfect as if reality was bending entirely to Ruby’s deepest desires. To top it off Ruby somehow pulled the exact narrative of 10 and Rose’s goodbye for 15 and herself, almost as if unconsciously she tuned into one of The Doctor’s deepest heartbreaks to reflect how horribly she felt about leaving them.

I don’t think Ruby’s real story is close to done. I think her perfect ending will start to show cracks, and the reality of it will seem more created than true. Eventually we may even see her wake up to the truth of her power in time for The Trickster to come in and truly fuck around with things for her and 15. It would be interesting to see her owning her power to send her own bio parent into a narrative that The Trickster could never escape.

There is just too much that went unaddressed. How did Ruby conjure snow? Why was Maestro so disturbed by her hidden song that they said there was something seriously WRONG with her (Maestro literally refers to her as a CREATURE)? How did she fold her own timeline back in 73 yards? Why were people so terrified of or infuriated by the apparition that we now know was Ruby? Did the Ruby in the distance tell people about her ties to the Pantheon of Discord? Did the apparition know the truth of Ruby that is hidden even from herself? Why would Sutekh care about the hooded parent more than anything else he creeped on during his centuries attached to the TARDIS? Is he a Jerry Springer fan, obsessed with “you ARE/ARE NOT the parent” reveals?

One final thing that makes me think they may pull a child of The Trickster into the story. In SJA before Elisabeth Sladen passed, they were planning on revealing that her adopted daughter Sky was really The Trickster’s child all along. The episode never aired as SJA could not go on without Elisabeth. I could see RTD honoring her show by making that story canon through Ruby. After all, Ruby too is an adopted daughter.

Absolutely living for the fact that The Toymaker FOUND The One Who Waits and merely said “It was someone else’s game”.

When what he meant was:

“Yeaaahhhh so, the literal god of death is treating your ship like a non-stop Uber whilst licking his battle wounds. One day he is going to pop up and absolutely wreck all life, everywhere you have ever been”.

He could not have been more deliberately vague and unhelpful if he tried, and it is 1000000% on-brand Toymaker buffoonery.
