why isn’t there a single god damn movie that doesn’t have a romantic subplot. why is everything centred around romance. a story can be still be interesting if the boy and the girl don’t kiss at the end ??
i’ll be enjoying a movie and then BAM the male and female leads just admitted feelings for each other. it’s not even a trope at this point because it’s literally EVERY film. what the hell is going on?
is that not like. a major flaw in the film writing industry if every film does like same thing like i am actually so confused about this
I feel the exact same way about songs. Like half of songs are love songs and even the ones that are mostly about something else will almost ALWAYS have one throwaway line about how they miss you or whatever. Anyway listen to Louie Zong he writes songs that are actually about other stuff for real and they also fuck
Ooh! Here are some other non-love songs and artists that make non-love songs I like (I always love recommending these!) Fair warning that a lot of these artists have controversies behind them.
Even Sir Paul McCartney, Silly Love Songs Guy, has written a non-love song! “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer” by The Beatles does feature Maxwell asking a girl out, but it’s just to murder her, so…(it’s a weird song). Actually, “Penny Lane”, “Revolution”, and “Strawberry Fields Forever” aren’t about love…I think the psychedelic-era Beatles songs are less likely to be about love. (And “Martha My Dear” is about a dog.)
Will Wood has a lot of songs about—well, I’m not sure what they’re about, but most of them probably aren’t love. Suburbia Overture (too lazy to type the full title) is good and also about how toxic and soul-sucking the 1950s American suburbs were, featuring nuclear puns.
Tally Hall also does, too. Most of their love songs are written by Rob and are generally less liked among the fandom. For a non-love Rob song, try (the unjustly hated) “Be Born” and for a non-Rob love song, avoid “Two Wuv” (in which the singer stalks the Olsen twins).
To finish off the holy trinity of neurodivergence, we’ve got Lemon Demon! Neil Cicierega is an Internet legend, and his music is just about weird stuff. Yeah, some of it is romantic, but it’s also usually weird enough to make an entertaining story (the singer gets amnesia and falls in love with his doctor, the singer falls in love with an eldritch horror, the singer is a cloud man flirting with people, etc.) and “Sweet Bod” really isn’t sexual. The real meaning of the lyrics is significantly more disturbing.
I randomly heard the song “Chaotic Gender Neutral” by Murder Person for hire online once and thought of it just now. If you’re trans and constantly disrespected, it might be a relatable song for you. Either way, it’s a good song (I don’t relate to it or particularly like folk punk but I deemed it worthy of my playlist.)
For a more popular song, try “Space Oddity” by David Bowie. I’m pretty sure it’s just about inevitability and how beautiful everything is or something? I’m not a huge Bowie fan, I don’t know. I’m just aware of that song because it’s popular and I’m in classic rock circles on here since I like The Beatles. Anyways space is cool.
U!U! Are we recommending songs and artist with no lust or romantic love in them?
Then. Let me introduce to you my favorite artist! Hua Chenyu!
He has a lot of songs that have a lot of philosophical themes in them! They mostly focus on the state of the world and emotions. He doesn't stick to what's trendy. He carves his own path!
The amount of songs about romantic love is so small that you could count them on one hand. Even so, they still focus on emotions and mostly on the feeling of longing. So no physical contact. Which is great!
There is also a big diversity when it comes to music genres.
