I feel like witchy people can sense each other
Oddly enough, they all come to my work too (except the barista at Barnes).
This one guy was wearing a Mjolnir necklace, and I complimented it. He thanked me and told me it meant a lot, because it’s a symbol for his religion. Then he followed that statement with “but I feel you already knew that.”
A young lady was in my shop today and was asking about tea, and talking about lavender and aromatherapy, and I noticed her moon tattoo on her left forearm. I told her it was lovely, and she thanked me and told me that she loves the moon. She leaned across the counter and whispered “She gives me strength.” I told her I felt the same way, and she got all happy and said “So you know!” and I really feel like we just had this connection about it without having to come out and say (in front of the other guests in my shop) that we’re witches, or we study the occult, or any of the like.
At Barnes, the young man at the cafe had a beautiful Amethyst necklace, which (you guessed it) I complimented and asked if it was Amethyst. He was quite surprised and happy that I knew, so he told me all about the shop in town where he got it, and a few other hole-in-the-wall places between Naples and Fort Myers that sell things like crystals and herbs and incense. Places that don’t have websites and aren’t on yellow pages or the like.
I have had so many experiences where one of us compliments the other on our jewelry, or a tattoo, or a piece of clothing and it launches us into a conversation about the occult, or witchy things, or even just Paganism, but neither one directly says that it’s what it is. We help each other out, give each other little tips and tricks (and sometimes I will tell people which teas I use for spells and incense and baths) and we go our separate ways. I like to think that they think of our exchange at least a little, because these exchanges give me a type of energy that I quite enjoy, and they make my weeks more fun and full of color.
It’s good to know that we are everywhere.
This was nice to read and I do agree.
autumn witch self-care tips 🍂
- collect fallen autumn leaves and acorns to keep on an altar dedicated to your favorite season
- wear a tiny pendant in the shape of a pumpkin, leaf, or cat, declaring it to be your good-luck charm
- take walks - breathe in the chilled fall air, admire the warmth of the colors, and feel yourself changing with the leaves
- dabble in kitchen witchery, using cooking as an outlet - a time to reflect, bring flavors together, and create something delicious that you can be proud of
- light up orange, yellow, and brown candles to keep your space feeling inviting and warming
On Harmful Spells
If you ever find yourself in a situation where you decide you want to use witchcraft negatively on someone, there’s a lot of options to consider, and the distinctions are incredibly important. This list is not comprehensive, but it’s a good starting place to help you decide what you want to do.
1. Return to Sender. Sometimes, the ideal solution is to take the nasty energy the target sends your way and throw it right back at them. In this case, a ward that aims to reflect the energy away may be the right choice.
2. Binding. If someone is overstepping their boundaries, saying things they shouldn’t, or deserves to have their productivity stunted, perhaps a binding spell is the best fit. There are plenty aimed at causing the target’s actions to stagnate.
3. Jinx. A jinx is a minor inconvenience for the receiver and is generally low-effort for the sender. Most commonly, they cause bad luck, mistakes, twisted tongues, and things of that sort. There are exceptions to the rule, but jinxes are generally milder than hexes and curses.
4. Hexes. Typically, hexes are thought of as less-extreme than curses. Consider, when deciding to hex someone, how far you want to go. Consider the potency of your ingredients, the wording of any parameters, and the intensity of your intent. If you want to cause minor inconveniences, you probably don’t need to be impaling rusty nails through cow’s tongue. The ritual should be reflective of your intent. Be sure to cover loopholes where possible. Be specific in your intent. Wishing general bad days can have wildly varying effects. That could mean a bad hair day or an outright catastrophe that will change them for the rest of their life. Be specific. Better safe than sorry,
5. Curses. Curses are the most intensive option on this list. Curses can be anything from a significant inconvenience to a generational issue. Again, consider the intensity you’re going for, and plan accordingly. I am in no way anti-curse, but you do need to think critically before acting. For example, perhaps someone has done something horrible to you, and you’re thinking of doing a spell to worsen their mental condition. What impact might this have on them, ultimately? What is the strongest possible outcome? Are you okay with that outcome? If not, dial down what you’re aiming to do. You should never get yourself in over your head. Unless you are certain that you will be able to accept what happens as a result, don’t do it. Think before you act. This is not something to be flippant with.
6. Cleanse and Ward. Sometimes, after a little thinking, you may realize that you don’t want or need to expend your energy on this person. For any number of reasons, you may decide that inflicting harm is not the goal. There are many options to cleanse and ward yourself, your belongings, and your spaces. There are also plenty of sachets and wards meant to absorb or neutralize any negative energies that come toward you. If you do choose to something to inflict harm, you should still be cleansing and warding both before and after you complete the spell. You wouldn’t want any unwanted energies finding their way into your work, and you don’t want the harmful energies lingering around you.

Resources for Spirit Work
Please note - though I myself am not a spirit worker, I’ve done enough research and seen enough of other people’s personal stories to say this: spirit work is not always light and fluffy and happy (obviously it can be, but not all the time). Spirits are not all willing to work with you peacefully - some are even downright rude or aggressive. It can be dangerous, and there are risks of getting involved with other entities not of this world. Make sure you know what you are getting into completely and are well prepared before engaging. Read and practice at your own discretion.

Things to do for Samhain
🍁For the Wistful
take a walk, once in the rain, once in the Sun to celebrate Autumn’s duality
collect the falling leaves and make a bouquet to hang on your wall
spare a thought for your ancestors, those whose legacy now belongs to you
research your family tree
visit your ancestors’ graves and adorn them with white chrysanthemum for protection
drink hot cocoa/coffee mixed with cinnamon, pumpkin spice or nutmeg
bake a pumpkin pie or try your hand at any pumpkin-related recipes (they’re all great tbh)
dress in autumnal colours: yellow, orange, red, brown
check your wards and protections around the house
give offerings to the spirits who have breached the veil
🎃 For the Wicked
have yourself a grand feast (leave a meal for the spirits though!)
marathon a horror movie anthology. or multiple.
gather your friends and have a bonfire night (bonus points if fireworks are included)
go to a halloween-themed party and dance the night away
dress up as a witch and let people believe that it’s just a costume
drink spiced apple cider or red wine. get drunk enough to casually chat with the spirits. celebrate outrageously.
trick or treat
Its that time of year again…
Things I've learned
Easy Kitchen remedies:
Eat fresh ginger if you’ve got an upset stomach
Drink peppermint tea or chew on peppermint leaves when you have a stomach ache
Hold cloves against your gums to numb a tooth ache
Boil parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme and drink them to reduce fever
After cleaning a wound, apply honey to help it heal and keep it from getting infected
Drink catnip and lemon balm tea to calm down after a stressful day
Take 5 grams a night of powdered valerian root to help you sleep and combat depression
Eat garlic to promote digestive health and prevent diarrhea
Dealing with Spirits:
Always leave an offering to house spirits and garden spirits
Only hang bells where you don’t want spirits entering (though there are a few do actually like bells, but they’ve been nothing but positive in my experience)
Clean from the east side of the house, westward
If a fairy ring grows in your garden, wait for the mushrooms to start dying before you pull them out
If you “lost” an heirloom, check your jewelry box, curio cabinet, or the favorite spot your deceased relative liked to keep said object, even if you don’t put it there ever. It may not really be lost.
Always answer the door on Halloween, but don’t let anyone in. (this goes for creepy people too, not just spirits)
Your pet is not crazy. When s/he flips out, reassure them, and be aware that you may not be able to see what they can.
Believe in your own Abilities:
Don’t buy in to the power of persuasion. You may not notice anything supernatural, because there may not be anything supernatural going on.
If you think something happened because you cast a spell, even if you can’t “prove” it, then it happened *at least in part* because you cast a spell. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Sometimes, the only effect a spell has, is to give us enough confidence to deal with whatever it is we were asking for help with. That’s a success in my book, and it should be in yours too.
If you’ve got a bad feeling about something, then don’t do it.
Ginger tea is also good for a fever, but to much ginger in your tea will give you a fever. Always use fresh slices ginger instead of powdered ginger to avoid this problem.
Local honey plus lemon slices plus ginger slices all mixed in a jar with room to move and stored in your fridge make an amazing healthy allergy and cold fighting potion.
As always, don’t replace your doctor and medical care with witchcraft!
today's mood: living in the castle, wearing long vintage dresses, having a garden where I can grow my plants for potions, playing hide-and-seek with ghosts, spending the whole night reading magic books and spells and settling Halloween parties every weekend

I finally found my own Hagstone! In my backyard no less! For those of you who may not know, in folk magic circles they are often used for warding off spirits, protection of your animals and human loved ones, protection for sailors and their ships, healing and fertility magic, and of course my personal favorite- seeing into the faerie realm. It just depends on who you ask. Once upon a time they were thought to ward off witches as well. 😘
