YA BOI IS FUCKING BACK WITH THIS NEW HAT
via Mitch Baird: “We were witness to something beautiful today. These two men are the same two men who were in that picture that went viral. Only in that picture, the gentleman on the right was wearing red face and feathers and angrily screaming at Robert Roche on the left. Today this man came up and asked for the forgiveness of my mentor and all those present. True to form, Robert graciously forgave him and listened to what he had to say. This baseball fan used my megaphone to address the wrong in how he acted previously. I watched my hero become an even more honored and cherished elder in one moment. This is the moment they shook hands and peace was made. I’m blessed to have been witness to this. — with Bee Schrull in Cleveland, Ohio.”

Well, I mean the republicans literally fought, shed blood, died, and killed their biological brothers fighting for their freedom in this little thing called the Civil War. More (white) men died in that war than in all the wars the US was involved in before hand, including the Revolutionary War. Oh yeah, and before that, republicans (white guys) were fighting in Washington to free slaves via legislation…
Just a quick summary of the entire section of your history books that some people seemed to have completely skipped over.
I love how this derails from ‘white people’ to ‘republicans’. As if their political affiliation somehow negates the fact that it was white people that enslaved blacks in the first place, white people who kept slavery alive for so many years, white people who kept voting it into law, and white people who fought to the death to keep it
Or ‘white people died in the war’. Well, white people started the war and white people nearly tore the country in two so there you go. ‘White people fought to free slaves” … that were enslaved by white people in the first place…?
The OP point is not ‘Republicans are evil’ or even ‘white people are evil’. It’s pointing out the ridiculousness of saying only 3% of white people owned slaves, while slavery went on for centuries. Saying that ‘only a few white people owned slaves’ does not lessen or negate the horror that was slavery and the still lingering impact that it has today. if slavery was opposed by so many, as people who use that 3% statistic like to claim, it wouldn’t have lasted as long as it did. The point is, it was an entire culture and system of accepting black people as less than human. Sure, there were white abolitionists and I’m in no way knocking that or denying the greatness of their work, but they were in the great minority. Not the norm.
You do understand that both democrats(proponents of slavery) and republicans(opponents of slavery) were only white as democrats fought against minorities rights to vote, right? You do understand that there were slaves of all races, right? You do understand that slave owners where of all races, right? You do understand that republicans(white people) fought for minority rights,(to end slavery, give blacks and women voting rights, etc.), right?
Not all white people were passive about slavery. This isn’t based on race as much as policy.
So this is less of “white demons are the source of all our problems,” to “White people actually freed your asses from other people of a variety of races and leveled the playing field, giving your ungrateful ass equal rights.”
Good job for entirely missing the point.
@salt-sass-and-lyrium No, they were enslaved by other black people in Africa and then sold to european traders, you fucktard
One, considering we’re not referring to Africa, makes your point completely irrelevant. Two a very very small percentage of freed black people in America (you know, the country that is actually being talked about) owned slaves in the later years of slavery.
But that’d require you to actually know what you’re talking about, and not to just jump into discussions to derail with utter derailing bullshit in order to make yourself feel special. But, whatever, do you. Have fun with that.
You said white people enslaved them in the first place, no, they didn’t, black people enslaved them in the first place. It’s hilarious that you say I’m derailing the discussion when it directly addressed what you said
…. did you see the part where is this - again - not referring Africa and is referring to the centuries long American institution of slavery or nah?
Also, no, it literally didn’t address what I said. At all. You tried to, and are still trying to, steer the conversation away from the OP point, American slavery.
…. and?
Does that somehow negate its existence or impact? No. See. You’re derailing again.
But, I’ll bite.
It took 90 (if you go from the year America declared itself independent, not when it was official) fucking years from the time America gaining its independence to slavery being abolished. That’s generations of people. And even then it was only declared illegal. It was still going on in various forms. It wasn’t over right. It wasn’t like “Whew we won our independence, let’s free everyone and treat everyone equally!” It was more “whew we won our independence, well this free slave labor is making us money so…”
One century is a long fucking time.
So, to bring this back to the OP point. Slavery was a horrific institution that was, although practiced by a minority, tolerated by a majority. Pointing out that only a minority actually owned slaves is silly because most people and the prevailing culture were okay with it, at least okay with it enough to not do anything about it.
Which is, you know, what the OP says.
^^^^^^ they’ll stop replying to you since you called them out.
They wanna jump in and add their 2 cents bout ‘blacks were enslaved in Africa first’ like they actually know shit…African slaves and Western Slaves were two separate things! African slaves were prisoners of war who paid their debts through enslavement. They were never treated with the the same severe cruelty and inhumanity western slaves had to deal with. African slaves were never hated or seen lesser than human because of the colour of their skin. Western slaves weren’t seen as people, they were property to the white man. African slavery was a form of punishment whereas western slavery was based solely on the hateful and greedy nature of white people
dont act like Africans where out there pushing the genocide of their own so you can feel better about the fact that your ancestors were horrible, inhumane people
