Eileen (2023) dir. William Oldroyd
I'll be honest: I never finished the book this is based on. Maybe, that's part of the reason why parts of the movie felt like such a surprise. Still, credit is due to the cinematic shots and beautiful adaptation, at least for the parts I remember from the book. Movie lens always has an ability to make even the most gruesome descriptions in the book appear so 'aesthetic' on screen. Rebecca is wonderful and the looks and small topics she shares with Eileen already made me feel like there is some queerness to come but the sudden burst of violence was not something I expected.
It was done beautifully; how we are slowly normalized to the notion of half of the scenes being simply the imagined actions Eileen takes, that one time it is real, we do not even clock it until it cuts to Rebecca.
All in all great movie, wish it was advertised or promoted better, I think it deserves more views,
