On this day, 24 July 2009, 3,000 steel workers in Tonghua, China rioted and beat an executive to death when threatened with privatisation and job losses. Jianlong Steel Holding Company official Chen Guojun, who earned over 3 million yuan the previous year, planned to take over the majority state-owned Tonghua Iron and Steel Group. He announced plans to cut the number of workers from 30,000 down to around 5,000, with those made redundant receiving around 200 yuan in compensation. The firm was still profitable, but the planned restructuring was aimed at increasing profits further amidst a global economic downturn. Outraged, the workers shut down production and rioted, beating Chen, blocking roads and smashing police cars to prevent police and ambulances from reaching him. The sale was subsequently scrapped. Y'know thinking about that, when I've described it before I've talked about how the success of middle-class second-wave feminists turned them into TERFs because radical feminism is rooted in the idea of the oppression of the "female body" and we obviously challenge that by existing and being more oppressed than them, and it occurs to me that parallels could perhaps be drawn between them and the entrenched British labour aristocracy
As Britain was one of the first countries to see capitalism become the dominant economic form, the workers developed a heavy degree of vulgar class consciousness that catalysed one of the first significant trade-union movements, which made great gains but without proper revolutionary consciousness led to the development of the sub-class of labour aristocracy, proletarians in relative privilege who stand to lose out somewhat in the course of revolution; likewise Britain (if I recall correctly) was also one of the first to see a significant popular movement for women's suffrage and first-wave feminism, which led to the development of a certain kind of feminised class consciousness with valuable insights that cannot truly liberate women as a class and whose influential proponents have become a sort of feminised-aristocracy who stand to lose their status in the face of a truly liberating socialist transfeminism

went to the beach ten minutes after an actual thunderstorm and got so cold i started coming up with a “fish” cover of creep by Radiohead which I was singing out loud over and over again. imagine me waist deep in the waves no feeling in my legs getting over a cold voice singing “i wish i was urchin. you’re so fucking urchin”
i have a random issue with a handful of pre-srar fall out boy songs where I LOVE the the start of the song or just generally everything but the chorus, but the chorus itself i find kind of underwhelming (eg: ilalwtwiattgyo, ttotbo, igatrimeanomf, cfmrfrpfmsr, gblogbd(dyptstsasgts)
poor thing...walked straight into the electric fence
Maybe one day we can stop moralizing the concept of privilege & everyone will get normaler about being told they have relative privilege over other people. Like literally everyone everywhere in some way. It's fine. Being aware of it can't hurt you
There's such an endless chorus of outraged "but what if I'm poor? What if I'm autistic" and it's like. Ok. You're not getting this at all let's just start over
