Most people might be annoyed by this, but this is where Cliff Marleau thrives. He'll purposely sign up with interviewer he knows only wants to ask him about Shane and Ilya, and instead of answering their questions, he'll just be yapping about random shit.

I think that sometimes Ilya messes up english phrases on purpose because he likes it when Shane corrects him

I see a lot of people who watch the show say that Scott obviously knew, but I think it's funnier that he doesn't. (I also believe that François has said that canonically, he doesn't know)

Like, after Shane tries to fight him, he's just like "Wow, he hates Rozanov so much. Hollander never gets into fights, but see what happens when you compare him to his rival?"

I also think it'd be funny if Scott tells Kip all their interactions of them clearly hating each other and Kip instantly clocks it.

Is there a fic where the way Ilya accidentally comes out to people is by calling any little inconvenience homophobic? Because there should be.

Marlow hears him calling his stick homophobic during practice because it broke on him.

Troy and Ilya go out to a bar and Ilya calls a stool homophobic for tripping him.

Harris gives Ilya a pin with a dog on it and is confused when Ilya says its homophobic because he pricked his finger on it. He thinks maybe its a language barrier?

Scott Hunter being flabbergasted when Rozanov visits the Kingfisher and calls a glass homophobic when he spills some of his drink.

Ilya takes every chance he can to call Pike homophobic. He loves annoying his partner's best friend.

Wyatt yells at Ilya for calling his goal cage homophobic.

Haas and the other rookies keep a list of everything Ilya says is homophobic.

As an older queer, allow me to say: the walls of the closet are load-bearing. It is our job as a community to stand in front of that door and tell everyone who wants to peek inside to fuck off.

There are so many reasons a person may choose not to come out and there is no reason a person would owe the public or a stranger that information. Certainly it's not owed simply because someone is famous.

We have fought for decades to make it safer for people to be open and authentic about themselves, but we are not yet there. And even if we were, the closet would still be something we need to maintain for those who are not ready to reveal that part of themselves.
