I know this is obvious but hey! I'm not in the habit of this and I want to change that, and I bet I'm not alone.

When we see the current devastation of our world: let that be our trigger to pray.

Pray for the illegal aliens dying in the Darien gap. Pray for children abused by pro-trans parents. Pray for protection of the food supply. Pray for intellectual revolution in the universities. Pray for peace. Pray for Jordan Peterson's salvation. Pray for our buckling health care system. Pray for the demonic schemes of our politicians to be exposed.

I've been contemplating these issues heavily lately and it's overwhelming because what can I, as a tiny individual, do? Even if I have the courage, I don't even know how to help.

But God does. Pray for the glory of God to be revealed in all it's spectacular Truth. Pray for a revival that takes our breath away and makes Satan writhe in rage.

Authors, if you feel this way, I highly recommend putting a blanket permission statement on your AO3 profile. (this also goes for things like podfic, remixes, translations, and anything else that you feel like including).

Artists, if you feel awkward asking (although 99% of authors would probably be thrilled!) look on their profile page to see if they have a blanket permission statement.

A permission statement is a way that you, as a creator, can tell other creators what you do and do not allow others to do with your work.

It's really helpful to share that information in an easily-accessible and permanent place because reblogging a post on tumblr or adding a tag to a post is only going to be seen by the people who catch that post when you put it up. Someone coming along 6 months or 2 years or a decade later will have no idea. Plus, you might have changed your mind in the intervening time.

It can be intimidating, difficult, or even impossible to directly ask someone if they'll allow you to create something based on their work, so a permission statement makes it all so much easier.

I don't think Tolkien is a good fantasy writer because he scored the highest at some objective Best Fantasy Book Test that every fantasy writer has to take, I think he's a good fantasy writer because he created a world based on things that he was interested in. I feel like a lot of fantasy writers think that they need to create a whole language for their world because Tolkien did and obviously his books are the best so they have to emulate him, but Tolkien did that because he was a linguistics nerd. I think the lesson to be learned from him is not that you have to include elves and deep history and new languages, but that you have to write endlessly about the things you are a huge nerd about and use those things to create your fantasy world
