as a writer do you have that phrase that you just love to use so fucking much that you subconsciously end up putting it in.......every single one of your fics, hoping people don’t notice or is that just me
i think that’s important to remember, when you think of the marauders. peter was there too. it wasn’t just james and sirius’ pranks, remus’ slightly more reticent nature. peter was alongside them in that time, no matter what he would go on to do later.
when you imagine the marauders, remember peter. remember the meek boy who idolised james and sirius, who learned under their wing. remember that he was there too, the child who would later break them apart, laughing and joking along with those who would later be crowned as heroes. it is easy to write him out of this history, to minimise his presence to a skulking hanger-on. but he was wormtail when that name wasn’t linked with evil; one of the three who learned the most difficult magic to help out their friend, who mapped an unmappable building, who achieved more than their teachers had ever suspected. peter was there, and he was in the middle of it. it is easy to imagine him as being a traitor before he betrayed them, but the truth is that it could happen to anyone whose will is not strong enough. peter snapped under the pressure, but he had the same promise as any of them. peter was a marauder until he made the most vile of mistakes.
four boys, together under the golden sunlight. tomorrow they would be separated - one dead, one imprisoned, one a traitor, one left alone. but when they were the marauders they were four, and we would do well to remember that.

i just saw a fb post where a man was arguing with a woman about the best way to make macarons and he kept insisting that she was wrong, and then eventually he was like “I’ve never personally made macarons, but if you think about it what I’m saying makes sense, i’m simply stating the obvious. i’m sure there are plenty of youtube tutorials that would show you the same thing.” and the woman replied by linking him to her instagram business page and she makes fuckin macaron towers for parties for a living and i’ve been laughing about it for a solid 5 minutes.

I’ll never forget a time when a fb friend of mine posted that she’s on her way to hospital to give birth. Women commented with “good luck” and other encouraging messages. A man’s comment was advice on how to give birth.
So I was talking about Jekyll & Hyde (the book) at a writer’s museum while we were looking at an Robert Louis Stevenson exhibit. I was giving my take on Jekyll, and my brother tried to counter it. I countered back easily, and then he said “well I’ve never read the book”
my ex, whose baking experience was pretty much limited to frying premade biscuit dough in boy scouts to make ‘donuts’, would constantly try to correct me or give me advice on baking
met a dude at a party who was talking about physics and asked if i’d ever listened to any online physics lectures bc he listened to all of this one series and they were so helpful and maybe i could learn some physics too
the best part is that the woman who invented the term ‘mansplaining’ (her name is Rebecca Solnit and i highly recommend her collection of essays) came up with it when she was at a party one night and a man tried to explain a book to her, and wouldn’t let her speak long enough for her to tell him that
she wrote the bloody book he was mansplaining to her

Feelings were difficult, it was something I had always known. Although I hadn’t considered the damage they could do, what they could ruin and to what scale. There are many emotions that could be the cause of this at the moment like guilt, fear, regret and many others, but we’ll be focusing on the main one for now. Love. One that is known for its beauty in most cases, but sadly not this one.
What happened was simple really, it wasn’t anything unique, but a case of wrong timing. During a year of close friendship I had developed a crush on Remus Lupin. A boy who I had known since our first year at Hogwarts, one of my closest friends, but it’s nothing to worry about right, just a harmless crush. That’s where you’d be wrong. I wouldn’t be lying if I said it started as a crush, but as time passed he seemed to become even kinder which made something changed, it wasn’t such a harmless crush anymore, it was love. Although because you are unaware of what happened the past year, you may still not understand what the big deal is, which is also a simple answer. Amy.
She was in her fourth year, while we were in our fifth. A pretty and smart girl who was in the same boat as me, lost in her feelings for a boy, and that boy was Remus. He was the obvious choice for her, their personalities matched so well, but I still couldn’t stand to see them together. It’s not that they’re together, at least not yet, but with the way they act they might as well be. Jealousy I guess is what you would call how I feel. Sure nothing was official as I have said before, but every look in their direction feels like a stab to my already broken heart.
I know you’ll all think I’m sounding dramatic with this, you’re most likely rolling you’re eyes because they’re not even together, but you don’t understand. The looks they give each other in classes, the laughing and heated discussions as they walk down the halls, feel as though they are ripping me apart. There are many examples of these moments, those small intimate gestures, that I won’t bore you with except one.
It was a normal day at hogwarts, no changes to the normal schedule, just sitting in the great hall waiting for classes to start. The hall was busy as always, the walls alive with the mindless chatter and gossip of teenagers. I was sat at the corner of my house table surrounded by the voices of my friends at my side, but I still couldn’t draw my attention away from one thing, that sat across the hall as if taunting me.
Amy and Remus sat together, they were laughing and acting happier then he ever had with me. Even without hearing the words they were saying I could tell they were flirting, it was obvious through their body language. If I’m being honest it made me feel sick, it made me feel like I couldn’t breath. A weird form of emptiness that didn’t take over my whole form, only my heart.
I had stood from the table so abruptly that it caused people to stare, but at that moment I didn’t seem to care, all I needed to do was leave. Fixing my gaze to the floor, I sped out of the hall, not even sparing the pair another glance. I walked faster and faster unable to stop myself, needing to get away from the scene. From the sight of the person I love flirting with someone else, but most importantly i need to rest my broken heart.
