Also on age verification: I have been on this website since 2011. Unless you think I started blogging at age 2, you KNOW I'm an adult.
#the fact that 'can prove access to an online account at least 12 years old' or even 'account to be verified is itself fully 18 years old'#AREN'T accepted methods of age verification is such a telling sign of what the real purpose of age-gating laws is:#data harvesting and deanonymization and the buildout of state-controllable ways to restrict both content and internet access itself en masse (via @shinelikethunder )

Having grown up w parents who were very pro gender neutral parenting the constant gendering of the new baby gifts industry is honestly distasteful to me. Like this is not in accordance with my traditional family values.

call me terminally academia-brained but i do think a lot of the fun of character analysis is figuring out how to build a compelling argument for a particular reading using lines of evidence from canon as well as meta/intertextual support
and you could say that what i’m saying here is basically “a lot of the fun of doing character analysis is doing character analysis” but let’s be real a lot of fandom character analysis is pretty heavily vibes-based. and i think that’s where i really chafe up against the traditional thought-terminating fandom attitude of like, everyone’s opinions hold equal weight and any interrogation of that is inherently hostile. because i think it’s fascinating to dig into where others are coming from in terms of their views on characters or dynamics or whatever, especially when they differ significantly from more commonly expressed views, and part of that digging is asking people okay what parts of canon are you drawing from to support your opinion? what parts of canon are you disregarding or downplaying? how does this argument hold up in the light of how race, gender, class, ability, etc. operate both in the piece’s in-fiction and real world contexts?
Don't leave your friends and even acquaintances to go to the hospital alone. If they don't have someone already going with them and don't explicitly tell you they don't want you there, go to advocate for them. Outcomes for sick people change dramatically when they have someone else there to observe doctors (making them know they can't get away with negligence) and note symptoms from an outside perspective.
Going to the hospital is scary and even someone totally unprepared to be a medical advocate or physical support will be better than nothing, purely from their presence. You can grab food, be there with your phone to search if theirs dies, go in search of a doctor, distract them from pain or discomfort... go with them.
This! Bringing someone with you to hospital visits and even dentidt appointments makes a world of difference. Even more so if you are a minority.
"He wouldn't say that" has a beautiful cousin, and her name is "That's Not What This Story is About".
Hello! I was wondering if you have any recommendations for books on asexuality (both fiction and non)? I tried searching through your blog but I didn't see anything other than The Bone People (which is already on my list).
Thank you in advance, and thank you for this project! I haven't read all of your articles, but the ones I have were wonderfully written and very insightful. ^.^
Absolutely! We have a few to recommend!

I would love to read some more recently released books though, does anyone in our audience have any recommendations?
For anybody not caught up: Tennessee just passed a new map that pretty much makes it so black neighborhoods have no power in local votes. Two things about this. While protestors were chanting "No Jim Crow", white Tennessee lawmakers were caught laughing on video. On top of this, Representative Justin Pearson and his brother KeShaun Pearson were arrested for trying to give their takes on the matter (which is not only their legal right but literally his job). If you give a shit about black people, help fight this. We can't allow a return to Jim Crow.

transmascs stole the ikea shark. aces stole the moon. they're stealing resources and attention from the actually oppressed lgbt people. you want to be oppressed so bad. aphobia doesn't exist, transandrophohia doesn't exist, but i wish it did. learn how oppression works. read whipping girl. no not like that. you're not oppressed, anything you say you experienced is either misogyny or misdirected or you're lying. stop talking about corrective rape. the term doesn't apply to you. you're using it as a gotcha. that's not why you were raped, i know your experiences better than you. stupid fucking aceys and transandrobros. you're all privileged and white. you're just incels. you just want to be special. you want to be oppressed so bad. i know your experiences better than you. shut up. piss your pants. kys. you don't deserve help or support. you're gonna love my asexy concentration camps. bomb that kills all transmascs. oh my god it was just a joke you are so sensitive. i'm punching up, you're my oppressor. piss your pants. kys. lmao look at this joke this teenager made. this post from an obvious troll blog is so bad. aces are homophobic. transmascs are transmisogynistic. we wouldn't have to say all these vile things if you just shut up and stopped existing. let us define your experiences for you. we know your experiences better than you. you're not oppressed. it's just misdirected misogyny and homophobia or transphobia, you don't need a name for it. you're not oppressed. you want to be oppressed so bad. i know your experiences better than you. i know your experiences better than you. i know your experiences better than you.

“Ghosts aren’t real” it’s very fair and rational that you believe that
“Ghosts aren’t real anymore” I’m about to hear a poem or very sad story
“Ghosts aren’t real yet” the fuck are you going to do

The best way I can explain Jeff Satur is that if someone announced tomorrow that the Fae are real and living among us, I’d be on the floor rethinking everything I know about the universe.
But if they followed it up with “and Jeff is one of them,” I’d get right back up like “oh, okay. That actually explains a lot. In fact, that makes the whole Fae thing sound reasonable” Honestly, it makes far more sense than him just naturally being like that.
I’d probably just go back to whatever I was doing. I don’t even think I’d have any follow-up questions.
It exists and it's called Portland, Oregon
