spoilers i guess
im so fucking exciteddddddd
the zendaya thing isnt even a new phenomenon by any means!! the article mentions margot robbie wearing the taj mahal diamond as well, and in addition to that i also want to remind people that diljit dosanjh's request to wear the patiala necklace for the 2025 met gala was denied by cartier because they said it was in a museum and could not be loaned. however they had no issues at all loaning it to emma chamberlain, a white woman, for the 2022 met gala, while they turned down the request of a punjabi man who wanted it to honor his heritage.
this behavior is nothing new. the global south and everything in it - the people, the culture, our heritage - is seen as nothing more than a decoration or commodity to colonizers. i don't even need to bring up the koh i noor or the entire british museum; these examples are recent and egregious enough on their own.
of course this is not to imply that any of the people involved here - zendaya, margot robbie, or emma chamberlain - had any sort of malicious intentions. but the ignorance is just as bad in my opinion. the ignorance is just as harmful, if not more. because it means we are not even an afterthought. it means that the real people and histories and heritages of the global south do not even register when these people are putting together looks for their movie premiers and met gala appearances. everything is just reduced down to a shiny piece of jewelry whose history they need not bother with. it's just a continued reminder of the way colonization affects us all even long after independence, of how barely-healed wounds keep being reopened even decades later. even now, we are being denied connections to our histories and heritages while they are freely being given out to those that have nothing to do with it and don't care for it. and i'm sick of it.
also re: grill the grid i love how everyone's joking around then every cut to oscar is just him in the middle of listing every answer as fast as possible
Pretty sure I can unlearn shame if I just keep beating myself up about it
idk who needs to hear this but it’s healthier for you to just accept that you’re gonna be kinda fat than it is to live the rest of your life miserably trying to monitor yourself to maintain a skinny weight your body doesn’t want to hold onto
suspicious…
there are apparently a lot of mushrooms that are poisonous to some people and edible for others. unlike food allergies, it’s not an allergic immune reaction, it’s mushroom poisoning but only for some people
Mushroom that says "Fuck these six people in particular"
imagine almost dying because the guy who wrote the guide to edible mushrooms in your area was apparently immune to most mushroom toxins
i was taught as a kid that white colonizers in north america did this with tomatoes in reverse. first guy who tried them had a bad reaction, probably allergies, and so local european settlers thought tomatoes were poisonous for decades
the thing with tomatoes was actually because of the materials used in the dishes commonly brought over by europeans, which was often pewter, and the acidity in the tomatoes ate at the dishes and gave them heavy metal poisoning by releasing the lead in the alloy, so not allergies, just white folk so high on racism they thought the indigenous people who had been eating tomatoes for over a thousand years were too stupid to realize they were poisoning themselves, while simultaneously eating heavy metals.
that's so fucking stupid

Yoooo, you gotta meet my friend! He’s an insufferable prick that’s so mired in his misery that just the thought of others being happy for any reason makes him lash out with vitriolic comments for no other reason than to upset you! And, he’s racist too 😃
Ahh, I can’t wait for you to meet my other friend! She’s developed an extraordinarily myopic mindset that anything she comes across, that doesn’t mesh with her pointedly narrow filter of experiences, will be treated as a violent attack on her way of life and she will not hesitate to act in inordinate retaliation to it. She’s racist as well 😁
No waaayyyy! Here comes my other friend! Oh, you should def meet them! They’ve never once challenged, questioned, or analyzed any school of thought they’ve been taught or presented with, taking everything at face value and unequivocally believe that life is an even playing ground. They genuinely think that there are no oppressive factors in our society that affect ppl’s lives save their own bad decisions. They are also racist 😉
You're a Sunnydale student. You notice weird girl Buffy has a new weird friend. She definitely doesn't go to this school. People have seen them walking the streets late at night, just the two of them. They go to homecoming together. One of your buddies overheard Buffy saying they were going out together that night. Someone suggests they're dating. You walk into the library one day and see them spring apart. They're sweaty, breathing hard, and absolutely hiding something. Okay, definitely dating. You didn't get that vibe from Buffy but good for her because she seems less mopey these days. Scott Hope confirms your suspicions. Weird girl number two interrupts your test by drawing a heart on the window and Buffy sneaks out for the supposed hookup. You see them later that night dancing at the Bronze.
A week later and the girl hasn't been around as much. Buffy's obviously preoccupied. Trouble in paradise, maybe? Prom comes around, and the other girl is nowhere to be seen. Your dad works nights at the hospital. Buffy and the girl come in together, both badly hurt. Buffy's up and about before long, but apparently the other girl's comatose. At your hell of a graduation, you overhear her telling the giant snake about how she stabbed the other girl. Then she blows up the school. You take your diploma from the ashes and remind yourself never to break up with Buffy Summers.
I live a very balanced life of noticing things nobody else does and not noticing the things that literally everybody notices

truly cordelia chase girl of all time. rich. pretty. bitchy. popular. thinks tact is a waste of time. secretly far less dumb than she lets on. half the evils in town hate her guts and for a solid year the only reason she doesn't die is that she's frenemies with the local monster hunters. drives her car into the school in the apocalypse. wants to know if the world's ending because if so she won't bother to study for her test. wishes a new reality into being and is immediately killed. her entire personality is a facade yet she always says exactly what she's thinking. consistently puts herself in danger to save the world and sometimes her peers. complains the whole time. i would do anything for her
