« Your love is above the love of women »
No brother in Christ, you’re just gay.
Deidameia to Patroclus :
Deidameia : « look at you. Your neck is short. Your chest is thin as a boy’s. And your face… hideous ! »
Patroclus : 👍 (sorry to bother I guess…)
Achilles to Patroclus :
Achilles : « your hair never quite lies flat here. »Then he touched his head just behind his ear. « I don’t think I’ve ever told you how I like it »
Patroclus : No, you haven’t 👉👈
Achilles : I should have 🥰
I’m going to combust
Everyone: implying Dean and Cas are a couple
Dean Winchester: doesn't deny a thing
me when Achilles is mentioned: :D
me when he's only mentioned for his strength and not his gay tragic whirlwind lovestory with Patroclus: D:
The Flower Vendor by Victor Prouvé (1882)
Oh to feel like this board
…and our joy was so bright we could see nothing else but each other. 🌅
Achilles jokes about his mother kidnapping him when she finds out about his relationship with Patroclus, but Thetis does kidnap Achilles after she sees how close they've become when they return to Pthia from Mount Pelion. Achilles believes that Thetis kidnapped him to protect him from the war, but that forcing him to marry Deidameia and have a child with her was because of his relationship with Patroclus. Thetis tried to do everything possible to repel Achilles and Patroclus, stopping not only at taking Achilles to a place where no one in his previous life was supposed to find him, but stopping only when Achilles was married, forced to lie with a woman, and childbound.
Achilles complied only because Thetis promised to tell Patroclus his location if he did her bidding, although she never intended to keep this promise. Achilles only knew his mothers lie when Patroclus came and told him that he went through all that pain for nothing. It wouldn't have mattered if he complied with his mothers cruel wishes, at this point in the book Thetis was never going to willingly bring Patroclus back into Achilles life. She forced him into a marriage and a family to hurt him, hoping that Patroclus would despise him for it, and hoping that Achilles would feel obligated to live this new life without him.
She tried to kill Patroclus from Achilles life, in all of the ways that mattered most to them.
I don't think I'll find love in today's society as a person who loves the arts. I just finished "The Song of Achilles," and Achilles and Patroclus spent every day for around 18 years together. The only exception to this was when Thetis hid Achilles in a distant land to protect him, and Patroclus went on a rampage around the kingdom asking where he was until he got an answer. He then travelled to him and saw Achilles dancing while dressed as a woman, and Patroclus knew it was him, despite the disguise, because he could recognize Achilles by touch alone, by smell, by his breathing, and even in blindness. They followed each other into war; they followed each other into death. Even the gods were scared of their love, for it had the power to change fate. They were each others muse. Half of each others souls. They loved unconditionally. I just don't think a love of this extremity is capable for most people today, and I don't know if I've accepted that.
