If you think "said" is too bland or getting too repetitive, add what your character is physically doing in the scene directly after "(pronoun) said" it'll make a long dialogue part of your story more engaging in a way that adds way more than just replacing the word "said". For example "He said as he leaned in closer" will more likely than not be more engaging than "He queried"
