What they mean by ‘taxation is theft’ is that servers are taxed on the ASSUMPTION that they will be tipped. If they don’t make those tips, they get taxed on them anyway. It is literally theft. By leaving cash and not writing it on the receipt, they’ve allowed the server the option of quietly slipping that 20 into their pocket and therefore not being taxed on it.

When I started acting, I couldn’t book anything, I couldn’t even get a call back. And I would go to the Latino castings and their issue with me was that they felt like I wasn’t, that I was lying, that I must have been half white because of how I looked, and I’d say ‘No, I’m full Latino, my father is Argentinian, my mother is El Salvadorian’ I didn’t fit their look of what a Latino looked like and so, I would try to audition for white roles and they would just kick me out of the room because of my name.
