i finished watching the season 2 of the first responders today and it's one of the finest thriller, crime drama out there and i have no idea why it is so underrated. The characters aren't one dimensional, story line is immaculate , pacing is great, no annoying misunderstanding scene, mature MCs. It's the whole package tbvh. I hope it blows up because it truly deserves it's due fame!

One thing I really love about Xie Lian is that everything about him seems like it should be pure and innocent when you meet him. He's dressed very simply, he's a god represented by beauty and flowers, even though he's a martial god. He's incredibly polite, and seems to want to help everyone he comes across. He always has a smile on his face, and even when people insult him to his face, he doesn't hold it against them.

But as you get to know him and his past, you soon realize that this is a carefully crafted persona. And it's not that Xie Lian isn't nice, polite, selfless, or loving. It's just that those virtues are not some innate and unchangeable component of his personality. Xie Lian has been mean. He has been selfish. He has harmed others with intent and honestly quite a bit of malice. Hell, he nearly committed genocide. Then he chose to be different.

He chose to be kind and selfless and loving, simply because it's a better way to be. He reminds us that goodness isn't a personality trait. It's a habit. It's a choice you make day in and day out just because it's a better way of existing.

when you think about it, even before “if you don’t know what to live for, then live for me”, xie lian was probably already keeping hua cheng alive even if painfully.

after the ascension hua cheng was already so devoted he made him a little temple that needed to be taken care of. going there regularly to leave offerings, keep an eye on it. he was living in agony but i can imagine him dragging himself to the temple because he still had some fruit to offer to dianxia so he had to endure it. i’m so unwell
