Disney Cuisine at Home: Try the Grey Stuff (it IS delicious!)
Since our cruise to Hawaii was cancelled (understandable but also all the tears) and now our late August vacation is up in the air we decided to try a little Disney magic for dessert tonight: The Grey Stuff!
I used this recipe from @disneyparks https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2020/05/disneymagicmoments-try-this-new-easy-at-home-grey-stuff-recipe-its-delicious/
And then this recipe for sugar cookies from my mom:
Ingredients
1 1/2 cups butter, softened
2 cups white sugar
4 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
5 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
Directions
In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Stir in the flour, baking powder, and salt. Cover, and chill dough for at least one hour (or overnight).
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Roll out dough on floured surface 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Cut into shapes with any cookie cutter. Place cookies 1 inch apart on parchment paper on a cookie sheet.
Bake 6 to 8 minutes in preheated oven. Cool completely.
Pro-tip: definitely give yourself a lot of time. The Grey Stuff needs 1 hour to chill just a step in then another 1-2 hours (or more) to chill when it’s all completed. The sugar cookies come together fast, but ALSO need to chill in the fridge for awhile before you bake them. So plan accordingly! You also want to make sure you’ve factored in cooling time for the cookies because otherwise the Grey Stuff will melt!
But all in all it was definitely worth the wait:
I mean look at that:
It really was delicious! I thought the heaping pile of Grey Stuff would overwhelm the cookie but it really didn’t. And the kids were super thrilled about the unicorn sprinkles I found to top them off!
Now I’ve never actually had the Grey Stuff at Be Our Guest, but I’d definitely make this again. It was pretty easy, looked great, and tasted even better!
