I don't hate it as much as everyone else does & I do think this is Jack's best work, but it's also nothing too special either. I enjoyed it well enough, but it could be better.
I'll say that I like the settings presented in this story!
Searchlight is honestly a cozy little town, despite how Nevada it is. It helps that Joy & Jermaine are very cool people! I also liked the Western setting in the Unconscious Realm well enough. A bit generic, but a nice way to show how diverse the realm is.
That said, the Western setting & dream characters felt wasted.
Red-Eyes & Las Vegas especially felt like wasted potential. The former existing because of the minds of my girl Brandy & Luis was lame, IMO. Why not just make him the mysterious antagonist while Las Vegas remains as a neutral force of nature?
That's also not to mention how the finale was a whole nothing-burger. The Unconscious Realm merging with reality should have a lot more going on. It should be more chaotic than some stuff swallowing people out of reality. What about the horses? The dream people? Things blinking in & out of existence? This was way too bland & way too safe like the Stranger Things finale. Las Vegas getting the same treatment as Red-Eyes, again, is lame & corny in a bland way.
Overall, the story could be better. It's serviceable & I don't dislike it. I even liked seeing & learning more about the Unconscious Realm! But I wish more happened & the potential wasn't wasted in existential fluff.
Really, this book's only strong suit is the main characters.
I honestly enjoyed them all! They all have their flaws, but I really liked taking their scenes & getting to know them better! I think they're as memorable as Elite Tag's cast (pre-season 3)! Yes, I even liked Jessie, mostly 'cause of how humanly flawed she is.
Nina's hard-headed attitude is understandable, considering what she went through & what she's done. However, I never hated her once. She was still a pretty likable character to me!
It was also nice to see them as siblings, even for a little bit (though that whole bullshit with Brandy not telling her about him was annoying asf).
Colt's also a charming guy - I even had him as my horse! Handsome asf too, though I wasn't romancing him.
And Luis...oh, Luis~...
His route ain't perfect - I thought he got a little too cocky after his come-to-Jesus moment & his anger outbursts were weird and out-of-character. But I still enjoyed it! He's honestly such a sweetheart~! 💚
And there's my girl, Brandy.
She's alright. Her naivity & stupidity is more believable than with Isla in the last volume, since she's a rookie. It's still annoying at times, but again, better than Isla, who was a milquetoast idiot, despite being a senior-ranked agent...
All-in-all, this is just meh. Again, I don't dislike it as much as everyone else does, but I was left shrugging my shoulders like, "Well, that's the book." It could be better, but it is what it is. Jack's my least favorite writer in the entirety of RC (in terms of writing, not as a person), but I think this mid piece of work is his best. I wish him good luck in his new role in the company though.
Ergo Proxy is an amazing anime, I just finished it. Definitely not for everyone though, it's quite philosophical and the way it addresses things isn't always direct. 10/10 I will absolutely be rewatching this again in the future.
AN3: Yeah, this is exactly like Neon Genesis Evangelion
(Warning: spoilers)
The difference is that in NGE, they used Christian mythology and language. In AN3, it’s Greek mythology, which ties in perfectly with the AOT angle.
This is exactly why the Angels were attacking in NGE. Instead of “advent” they used the word “impact.” First Impact took place in prehistoric Earth. Second Impact took place in Antarctica. Geez, is there anything original in this book? Third Impact was the end of the world.
And then there’s the Evangeli—I mean, Prometheus. I can’t believe how unexciting its debut was. All this build up and what do we get? A giant hand. Splat. That’s it? That’s IT?
Omg, this book is nothing but a waste of amazing borrowed ideas. The blue balling is unbelievable!
This is exactly why I have below zero respect for Anton. It's one thing to get inspired by something, or even have a rewrite of your own version, and another to add very specific key details (which are A LOT in Advent's case) and then even act like you don't even know these works. It's honestly so shameful thieves like this are in the top ten. I've dropped this book really early, really soon after I saw from the trailers that the Titans looked and walked exactly like AOT, the chase scene was highly likely literally extracted and stolen from an AOT clip, and you immediately get hit with the three protective walls against "Colossi". The scummer didn't even bother to change the AOT layout of the city and have at least a different number of walls. This is from what I've seen from just the first seconds of playing the book. Shortly after I dropped it. I'm not going to give it views by diamond farming it, because that still counts for its popularity. But just from other people's screenshots you have: the exact same equipment from AOT, the reveal that the Titans were humans all along (a big deal reveal in AOT). And now of course NGE.
Anyone who has said this wasn't an AOT steal has obviously never watched AOT and has no idea what they're talking about. I usually shrug off books getting popular that I think don't deserve it, but in this case I will blame the audience for making this popular. No wonder the romance here sucks. Anton only bothered stealing the plot. In his next book, which he will unfortunately be having, he could steal the dynamics of some popular pairings and the audience will praise him for his improvement.
AU: Somebody paid millions to clone Leon and enhanced that clone with a virus, making one of the deadliest assassins around. Of course the clone is younger, stronger, and deadlier.
Rc didn't get dragged enough for this new episode formula. They gaslight you into thinking you are getting more content because of the massive amount of episodes released but these episodes are literally 10 minutes even with all the relationship upgrades (waterlily is one of the biggest criminals) hs3 too when I played it, idk how it is now
Literally who TF was actually complaining about getting long episodes filled with worthy content? (except for boring stories like garden of eden dragging on for 2hrs and shit)
I hate capitalism so much because all this was done for people to buy more teacups but they had to lie that they had the player's interest in mind, yeah sure
This stemmed from my desire to see a Leon and Jill team up. 'Coz Jill deserves to be kicking butt with Leon (along with Claire, but I'm too in a rush to add more characters in this comic). I headcanon that Leon and Jill have a sibling dynamic with Jill lightly bullying him at times lol.
Special thanks to @theycallmedarling for the proofread and to @loveiscosmicsin for the support! Also I made this more Jarlos for you guys hehe.
AN3 is the closest RC could get to military scifi, but the plot didn't do anything to me. I really have no idea what Anton really wants to tell w the story.
