Sometimes I'm not even mad at something cause it's blasphemous I'm mad cause it's boring
"omg what if angels were control freaks and heaven were actually a cold uncaring place focused on rules and regulations and owning other people" honestly your flawed theology doesn't even bother me as much as how deeply unoriginal this is. Screaming begging you to come up with a new take that doesn't make you sound like an edgy thirteen year old.
ive got an inkling that you would only find literary takes interesting if they still framed heaven as the Wonderful Place and god as The Good Everything and the devil as Unsympathetic Evil.
of course people are gonna have a lot to say about christian philosophy so long as christian culture continues to be topical.
we're all aware that its not an 'original' take? we've seen it before with good omens, berserk, diablo, shinigami tensei, persona, etc
but it's a repeating premise because the message isn't getting through. now i know why; people like you just don't. make the effort to listen.
"it's hot topic bullshit!!" no, it's marginalized voices dedicating years of labor to creating acclaimed works.
Your inkling is wrong and the take is still saying nothing new, we've heard it, we've simply chosen not to give up our faith because of a fictional depiction of a potential world system? I'm not sure what you think you're trying to convince us to listen to.
your problem isn't whether it's a 'new' take or not. i think part of your problem is that you don't seem to put into consideration that a lot of the creative minds behind these takes aren't believers. to us, the church, its people, and the bible are one and the same.
we often see christian authority as a purely human problem. it's not softened by the possibility that maybe scripture has it right. we don't see holding onto that faith as a virtue.
hence why the angels and gods are written to be criticized, and demons to be sympathized with. 'cause they're human. the rules are arbituary and oppressive 'cause they're all human. they're CEOs and politicians versus the queer non-male audience of color. it's the exact mirror of what we see happening in the real world.
so of course you won't give these takes any proper due, you instead pretend they're shallow. if you didn't, you'd probably have a lot of conflicts to confront.
The purpose of "heaven as cold and rule-obsessed" as a trope isn't "heehee, I'm so original and scaaandalous," lol. The purpose, if anything, is more like depicting a Heaven that matches with the experience of dealing with the kind of people who obsessively tell everybody that we're going to hell for this or that infraction.
It's not original because a metric crapton of people have had to deal with that shit. And it's going to continue to come up, at the VERY LEAST, until it's neither socially acceptable or culturally permitted, to be a hellfire-and-brimstone type, or to argue that something should be illegal because "the bible says", or to argue it's impossible to be a good person without god, etc.
