big eyes.
ywseunghaeā:
seunghae is fascinated. which is ironic, isnāt it? being fascinated with someoneās fascination. quite frankly, heās impressed at how excited and impressed kit looks, the questions he asks, the way he looks at everything, the way he pays attention to everything he has to say and explain. itās interesting because finding someone willing to learn as eagerly as he was⦠well, it was pretty hard. most city people hated life around here, or at least they didnāt like it enough to want to learn or what have you. either way, heās happy and heās impressed with all the questions coming his way.
ābeautiful is a good word, definitely what iād use to describe them.ā yes, the hongs make money out of these animals, he knows, but that doesnāt mean he lacks a heart, it doesnāt mean he canāt love and appreciate them because he surely does, so much to the point he always goes around giving them names instead of relying on the number his stupid brother wants to name them after.Ā
āso howās thirty-four feeling today?ā
āyou mean āhoneyā? sheās doing better.ā
it was a never ending battle between them.Ā ābulls, yes. we have five of them here, theyāre just a part of the family⦠and you know, the fathers of the calves. we currently have forty-seven cows, but my family wants to aim higher and want more. competition around town is getting strong, as you know, weāre not the only dairy farm in the region, and they take competition very seriously.ā which to him, is stupid, but alas.Ā
letting out a hearty chuckle, seunghae shakes his head,Ā āno, no, we donāt eat them. theyāre only here for milk, so donāt worry about it.ā he actually stares at the cow kit is referring to, good olā kinja.Ā āi said that same thing as a kid, by the way. i loved seeing them so much, and i still do, that i told myself iād stop eating meat but that never happened.ā leaning against the fence, a question pops in haeās head and he canāt help but ask,Ā āwhy are you so into this, though? i donāt think weāve discussed that yet, at least not thoroughly.ā
kitās probably a little too pleased with himself for getting something right, almost preening as seunghae confirms that he used the correct word. korean is a language that still doesnāt sit quite comfortably on his tongue, though it may be hard to guess that with how he hurtles headfirst into the language as if he canāt stop talking even if he tried. mistakes are made, but he improves daily thanks to his unbridled eagerness to communicate and make friends.
āthatās already a lot of cows,ā kitās brows raise. honestly, he doesnāt know at what point a farm is considered ābigā. forty-seven cows and five bulls sounds like an unmanageable amount to him already. āwhere are you gonna put the āmoreā? will they have enough elbow room?ā he frowns in concern. heās known these animals for a matter of minutes but already heās troubled over their well-being. at least seunghae seems to be concerned about them too. it puts kit at ease; even though he knows that seunghae isnāt the top dog, the man in charge, heās sure that the cattle are in good hands as long as heās around. especially after the other man confirms that these creatures are not to be eaten.
a thoughtful sort of look dances across kitās features. heās watching the cow still, her big dark eyes, and scratching at her side lightly. she seems to like it, so he doesnāt stop. he almost misses seunghaeās question when itās asked, as if caught in a trance by the beast.
āoh.. iām not sure.ā he shrugs, dropping his hand from the cow so he can give his attention to the human more fully. āi grew up in cities, so i didnāt actually see a cow in person until i moved here. maybe itās just curiosity.ā the pull toward husbandry seems more profound than mere childish exploring, but kit hasnāt found the words to describe it yet, not in any language. heās not quite sure of the magnitude of it himself. āitās really interesting. and i want to find my place here, so i want to learn everything i can. see what iām good at... or what i like the most.ā
