Honestly, the only reason why Yuugi stopped here was because he needed shelter. He’d been wandering on his own throughout the city, having been given instructions to his housing but not finding any of his roommates, and he continued to stare in frustration at the Rubik’s cube that he held between his hands. Winding up within the arcade, he brought himself to a free table close to the cafe, and decided, to hell with it, he’d just go ahead and mess up and then re-solve the Rubik’s cube over and over for the time being as he thought about what he’d do -- how he was going to get food, how he was going to get his Millennium Puzzle back...
Before he fell completely into that thought, a woman’s voice caught his attention and he raised his head, blinking in surprise as he saw her. He gestured to himself when she waved, as if caught off guard by the fact that she’d speak to him, and then smiled sheepishly when she mentioned the Rubik’s cube itself. Well... She seemed friendly enough. Why not?
“O-oh, this?” He held it up, then laughed in embarrassment because of course she was referring to that. Did Yuugi see any other Rubik’s cubes around here? No. “A-ah, well, yes, I do know how to solve it. See--” He quickly set himself to fix the current mess he made of it, and then matched all of the sides before he held it out for her to see. “Yeah, see? I’ve actually learned the solution a long time ago... As for why I have it, well... Actually, this Rubik’s cube isn’t mine, technically.”
His smile fell. “See... When I was taken into this city, I used to have something else strapped around my neck,” he gestured to his collar, “but...the scientists took it from me. Then, they gave me this.” He sighed. “What they took was really important to me. I hope I can get it back...”
He paused, then snapped to attention, trying to bring a soft smile back to his face. “A-ah, sorry for rambling. Pardon my rudeness-- I’m Mutou Yuugi. I’m...guessing the scientists got you, too?”
