Susie Kissing Sally by Virginia artist Susan Singer

just got called a pick-me online for [checks notes] pointing out that women in the US could have lines of credit and bank accounts in their own names before 1974, AND it was socially acceptable for them to do so, but gender discrimination in lending and banking was legal and rampant and that's what the law changed
listen, if not wanting to give misogynists a loophole to swoop in and damage our credibility with the general public by bringing up their grandmothers who had bank accounts makes me a pick-me. uh. tee hee I'm Not Like Other Girls, I guess </s>
What a random-ass thing to call someone a pick-me over. Do they think that's somehow downplaying how bad things were? Does that statement read as a "We don't need feminism" kind of thing bc I'm struggling to fathom how.

Say what you will about Dark Empire, it at least explained how Palpatine returned (and why he stays dead at the end).
the actual biggest failing of Merry & Pippin's awkward introduction in the movie, imo, is the failure to explain that Merry&Pippin and Frodo are friends. in the book those are his 2 best friends; in the movie they literally don't directly interact prior to running into each other in the cornfield and it comes off like they are at best casual acquaintances.
this means that their decision to join up with the quest is a bit jarring. like. why not just go on home? they seem to go along with Frodo bcos that's what the book says happened and for no other reason.
however: i think this is actually a knock on consequence of another adaptional change, namely, the decision to make Frodo and Sam good friends.
in the book they are not friends but rather master and servant. they cannot be friends due to the class barrier that exists between them and over the course of the quest said class barrier is broken down; this is a reflection of the shift in British class dynamics that took place following WWI. some of their early interactions are hmm. well I think for a 21st century international audience they would come off a bit icky.
so: the time that might have been spent setting up the Frodo and Merry&Pippin friendship is instead spent showing Frodo and Sam being friends. in all honesty the fact that they are played more as friends whilst still being employer & employee actually makes the dynamic kind of Off in a different way (like. would you want your boss getting involved in your love life? i sure wouldn't) but as the movie plays down the master/servant aspect of their relationship in a big way i think most viewers are not troubled by this.
alas tho, I think the lack of explanation as to why in the world Merry & Pippin are there does trouble people lol!!
if anything i think the Bakshi movie handles this marginally better in that Merry and Pippin simply Appear as part of the group when Frodo and Sam set off on the quest. we can tacitly infer that Frodo invited them along and that therefore they must be his friends.
In hindsight that probably would've been more efficient, too. Although it would hurt the book ending of Frodo initially leaving with just Sam and then doing the same at the end.
So I'm an adult.
My friend is an adult.
My friend has a valid credit card she has shared with steam.
I send my friend an adult game as a gift.
My friend can't get the game. She knows what the game is and was excited to play it. I live in the US. She lives in the UK.
We're pretty sure its a UK age laws thing instead of steam difficulties or even country borders.
I know I'm speaking to the choir here but I feel the need to share that we've experienced the real life effect and goal of these laws.
Because part of the thing is this game was not only good but it scratched a particular itch of mine. It would scratch a similar itch for my friend. It would enable her (as it has for me) to go and do more things because her needs are sated. And bond more as human beings.
These laws are attacking a way humans form bonds.
And I just want people to know that.
Yeah, Steam’s implantation of UK law is very strange. You *need* a credit (not debit) card on your account to see mature/sexual games.
Very odd choice, and just a shite way of implementing it.
Everyone in this family is hilarious no notes
#OH. JOE HILL IS A REAL DUDE. #I did think Mr. nashville tenesee was doing a funny lol
I am cracking up so hard bc it lowkey implies Mr. Joe Hills (coming at you like he always does from Nashville, Tennessee) might not be a real dude.
media literacy pop quiz, wiki article for thai "lady boys"
Can we infer anything about the gender, racial, and national demographics of its authors?
This is a living document, it has an edit and a discussion history. In what ways does that history support or contradict the text? If necessary, rely only on the following example:
3. Is the article constructed so as to argue a particular perspective? If so, who would be the primary beneficiary of that argument? 4. Are any other perspectives given credence? 5. Are there any historical parallels to the Western conception of transgender women? if necessary, rely only on the following example:
6. Is entering Thailand with a Western, particularly a US, passport morally neutral? Why or why not? 7. Do the people who are the subject of this piece have incentives to agree, disagree, or abstain from discussing the article's perspective on their gender? Discuss how this relates to questions 1, 3 and 6. Bonus Points: kill a sex pest in cold blood (I am not Thai, I'm a white american tgirl, I'm just so fucking tired of hearing this and I'm hearing it a lot lately)
Someone recently pointed out the same thing with Hijra, the Indian equivalent. People will see AMAB people living as women, bedecked in the social markers of womanhood, and getting gender-affirming medical care and bend over backwards to explain how this is totally different from our western ideas of trans women.
it's a transmisogyny into orientalism combo. anyone with half a brain can understand how cultural context would inform conceptions of gender, but the majority of the time people act like we're discussing a different species instead of like. other humans.
I'm far from educated and I certainly know better than to trust this wiki page (second citation is a vice video btw), but I really don't see how "transfem nonbinary" doesn't adequately encompass people who self-identify as kathoey.
Up to and including being gendered by everyone else as either male or female, depending on what use they can get out of you. the only reason we're talking about this is because of sex tourists who want to fuck "lady boys".
Why does the "General Description" begin by explaining they're not women and get worse for the rest of the paragraph? Why is nothing actually described until the second paragraph?
what's our porn category say again? oh, right
Wikipedia image caption: Leather collar stamped with the word tranny, commonly worn by trannies.
Adjacent paragraph: Although tranny is often mistranslated as "transgender woman", don't worry, you don't have to treat them like women. btw did you know that it was originally for intersex people? cool huh. anyway, the proper translation is ladyboy or a special third thing that's even less gay to fuck than a trans woman. cheap too. It's just so astonishingly tasteless. I have so much in common with these people, now if only I could easily learn more about the parts that don't suck.
In this article, I assess the social situation of kathoeis (Thai transgender women), critiquing the development of society’s perspectives th
reblog this version please. much more important words than me trying to be clever about being pissed off

one of the hardest things to learn as a depressed former Gifted Kid™ is that half-assed is better than nothing. take the 50%, 40%, even 20% job. scrubbing your face is better than not taking a shower at all. picking up your clothes is better than never cleaning. nibbling on some bread is better than starving.
DO THINGS HALFWAY. NOW YOU’RE 100% BETTER OFF THAN YOU WERE BEFORE.
One of my college professors used to say “anything worth doing is worth doing poorly.” I didn’t understand that for years because I didn’t do anything poorly, I couldn’t do anything poorly, I had to Do Everything Perfectly.
But brushing your teeth for 30 seconds is better than not brushing them at all when that 2 minutes seems exhausting. Doing ten minutes of yoga is better than 10 minutes of sitting when 30 minutes of cardio sounds impossible. Changing my clothes is good when a whole shower is impossible. Standing on the porch for a few minutes is worth it after being in the house for three straight days because I don’t have the energy to go anywhere.
Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly… because doing it poorly is better than not doing it.
someone please hit me over the head with this post every day for like the next week thanks. a mention, a reblog with text, a message, something.
You must understand that perfectionism isn’t striving for excellence, it’s a crippling fear of being flawed and therefore worth abandonment or punishment. It’s a kind of psychological avoidance. You’re avoiding fear and failure , not embracing the thing you want to do bc if it was about the thing you want to do you’d be fine with partial victory.
looking at any kind of trans supplies focused online shop is depressing because there will either be a complete absence of anything for transfems or like. a really sad transfem section with 5 items at the end of a list full of binders and packers and harnesses
