i made a post like this before but I can't find it now. so. I'll just redo it.
What's the first "big news story" you remember from when you were a kid?
It's something I love to ask mixed-aged groups sometimes because I think it's really interesting to see the responses. I've gotten answers from the Olympics of [whatever year] to Watergate to more recent stuff from my niblings.
My first news thing I remember is the OJ Simpson trial. I vaguely remember watching the news with my grandparents before that, but that's the first story I remember, in part because my second grade teacher had us go play so she could watch the verdict š
I remember walking down the street and seeing a sign protesting George W. Bushās war on Iraq, so I think that.
You have became this medieval role, how do you feel about it

Coworker has been trying all day to send me a file I need about a Pride festival. He finally contacted IT and I caught myself right before I responded āour systemās obviously homophobic.ā
Just heard from him that his IT rep has no idea why itās happening so I think my point stands.
I have to ask something of you lovelies. If any of you wear progressive lenses, do you have any tricks or tips for getting used to them? Are they as awful as everyone on the internet says??? š«©
I have outlasted all predictions from previous eye doctors and am still not using anything for seeing up close besides the tried and true method of dropping my glasses down my nose and peering over the top when I have to read fine print. š
Until now. I had to change doctors and I told him I was concerned about my eye health because since I started this job, Iāve been having blurry vision at night and my eyes just feel strained or really tired by the end of the day.
Itās never a good thing when the doctor keeps exclaiming OH WOW, OH MY GOD, WOW REALLY as he flips through the lenses while you stare at the chart. Although I appreciate his enthusiasm because it made a pleasant (but worrisome) change from the usual: which is better, one or two? Although he did all that too.
Turns out my ānear vision is shotā to quote him directly, and my intermediate vision is not corrected at all by my current glasses which are only giving me far distance. He said that explains why I told him my glasses arenāt sharp or crisp, and it definitely explains the blurred vision and tiredness after work because Iām literally straining my eyes anytime Iām not looking across the street or something far away.š«©š«
Heās a cutie (no seriously, heās very handsome and he asked me 3 times if weāve met before or if he knows me from somewhere??? no.) and he said he didnāt want me to hate him or think that he was calling me oldā¦but if I really want to see as clearly and crisply as possible that itās time to get the progressives. And since I have vision insurance at the moment, I ordered them.
I know people whoāve hated them and never got used to them, so I wondered if anyone here has successfully tried them. I just want to be able to see and not have the tired, strained feeling every night. FWIW, he said my eyes are healthy and all the pics they took and thorough exam were fine so š¤·āāļø
I celebrated one year at my (āØwonderful, āØfabulous, āØincredibleāØ) job today. I still love it!
I also still donāt understand how G**gle Sheets works, and at this point, Iām way too scared to ask.š¬
but what if i read one of your fanfics and then went to your ao3 accounts and read all of your fanfics and left a comment on every single chapter of every single one and you got spam emails from all of my kudos and comments and it made you smile, what then? what if i brighten your day with my words like you did mine, what then???

I think it's really funny that reading the discworld witch books (at least the ones that are Weatherwax+Ogg+Magrat), Granny immediately seems like the scariest one by far. She seems like a terrifying force of nature accompanied by a jovial old grandma and an insecure young woman. But as the series progress, the times when Granny holds back and Nanny and Magrat jovially engage in brutal physical violence add up. Now I'm not saying you *shouldn't* be scared of Granny, I'm just saying that she has a rather strong conscience in her way, whereas Magrat and Nanny will both sucker punch you, kick you between the legs and happily step over your groaning body. Granny is to be feared, but Nanny doesn't fight fair and Magrat will kill a motherfucker. Terry Pratchett really knew how to write female characters.

Of all the hashtags and memes and fandom jokes that haunt twitter, the one I absolutely hate is #whoremembers because you know exactly how I read it every. damn. time.
