It’s that time of year again! Submit a photo of your pet to the third annual Zine Librarian Pet Zine, to be distributed at ALA Annual in Orlando.

Hey all, its time for you to get out those typewriters, quill pens, and crayons (or whatever you create with) because Issue #6 of Two-Fisted Library Stories* is now accepting submissions!

What can you submit? Stories, comics, drawings, photographs, recipes, knitting patterns, phony letters, fake news items, bogus advertisements, made-up issue blurbs, and whatever else you can think of as long as it contains LIBRARY ACTION. Stories can be about librarians, library technicians, library cats, sentient libraries, etc. As long as your contribution is somewhat library focused and at least a little bit pulpy (mystery, sci-fi, fantasy, horror, romance, etc.) it’s fine! (This TV tropes page on Two-Fisted Tales might help give you some direction.)

Plus, we need COVER ART! If you’re interested in drawing the cover, please get in touch!

Deadline for issue #6 is September 30th!

We’re aiming for a Halloween launch date for this issue, so if you have a scary, terrifying, or otherwise spooOOOOooooky idea, now’s the time to work on it!

Call For Submissions: wish i could stop - an OCD zine

This is a call for submissions for a zine by and for people who have the chronic anxiety condition called OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). The zine’s tentatively called wish i could stop. Anyone with OCD is encouraged to submit if they want to, including folks who are self-diagnosed. People who may tend to get left-out because of race or ethnicity, additional disabilities, socioeconomic class, gender or lack thereof, sexuality or lack thereof, age, being locked up, using alternative methods to handle mental health, etc., are especially encouraged to submit if they want to. OCD is one of the hardest mental health issues I deal with personally, and I’d really like to connect with other people who have OCD as well.

Writing is great: journal entries, blog posts, poems, letters, articles, rants, lists, etc. To allow space for other people in the zine, a maximum of 4 pages is preferred. Written submissions should be typed, or neatly handwritten in print (not cursive, please, if you can avoid that) if possible, in size 12 or slightly above font. Also, please don’t write in all caps because that’s harder to read. You do not have to write about OCD - you just have to have OCD. If you need some potential writing topic ideas, just ask.

Artwork and video (except porn, please) are also super great. Artwork needs to be able to be emailed or photocopied, and fit on standard size printer paper (8.5 x 11”). Please either provide an image description, or keywords about the image (for me to write a description), if possible. Video submissions must include accurate captions.

Use trigger warnings and/or content warnings as needed at the top of the page, or in your submission email to me if you’re sending artwork.

If you want to include a short contributor bio (name/nickname/anonymous, age, pronouns, general location, hobbies, way for people to find more of your work) to go with your submission, feel free to do so.

Ways to provide protection from spiritual and physical beings:

Make a witches bottle: They provide you with protection against curses, hexes, and spells sent your way as well as to protect your property and possessions.  

Salt circle: A salt circle provides the person inside with protection from negative entities and demons. Line your window sills and door way entrances with salt to create an impenetrable barrier.      

Iron: Repels evil.Three iron nails driven into a doorway or window sill will block negativity from entering your home. Note: Iron repels Fae!

Plants: Some plants have protective properties. 

Ask your deity for protection

Mint leaves in your shoes protects you from curses

Put pepper in protection sachets to protect against magickal attacks.

Burn bay leaves to reverse curses

Scrawl your home and clothes with protective sigils

Quartz Crystals: Provides protection.

Visualization

Paint your front porch blue to ward off ghosts:They fear water so this may confuse them.

Hang an upside down horse shoe above your door: to ward off evil spirits.

Hang wind chimes around your home: To scare off bad spirits

Nazar or evil eye: Protects your home from bad luck.   

Rowan: Two branches from rowan trees bound together with red thread in the shape of a cross. It provides protection when hung above doorways, according to celtic traditions.

Arrowheads: Placed above your door will help keep burglars and unwanted guests out.

Cinnamon Sticks: Tied over the door will protect your home.

Rosemary wreath: A wreath of rosemary bound with green thread can provide your home with protection. Add other plants that correspond with protection as well. 

Ivy: Grown up your house provides protection,

Mistletoe: Hung in the house protects it from thunder and lightning.

Acorn: According to Norse mythology, placing an acorn on the window sill protects the home from being struck by lightning. 

Pine branch: Where it for protection.

Create your own protection amulet

Place mirrors around your home to deflect the evil eye
