Something that hasn’t been discussed amongst all the allergy talk: what if Shane is allergic to Anya!! What then!!
I'VE THOUGHT ABOUT IT BUT IT MAKES ME SO SAD
I DON'T WANT TO DO THAT TO THEM 😭😭😭😭
Shane did not think he was allergic to dogs.
Shane was pretty sure he hadn’t been allergic to Anya, but he’d just given her a cuddle and now his arm is a little itchy?
He washes the arm, dabs on a little hydrocortisone cream, and puts on a shirt with long sleeves. It stops itching, he’s fine, his arm probably just got tickled by a a piece of shed fur and he freaked out about nothing.
Except the next evening it happens again on his other arm. A few days later on his wrist. This can’t be happening; he can’t be allergic to Anya, she’s Ilya’s baby.
Shane becomes extra careful about washing all the way up his arms after touching Anya. He can’t have a reaction, Ilya can’t find out.
But then he gets back from an exhausting trip and flops on the couch, and he is enthusiastically greeted by both of them. Anya manages to get a few licks on his face, but he’s tired and Ilya is holding him, so he doesn’t get up right away and wash, so Ilya sees the red blotches come up on his cheek. Ilya goes into allergen-exposure mode, asking Shane about his breathing and what he could be reacting to. Shane tries to calm him down without explaining, but Ilya has pulled an epipen out of somewhere and wants to drive him to the emergency room for this mysterious allergic reaction because “face has holes for breathing, which even boring people need to do”.
At which point Shane admits that it’s from Anya licking him.
Ilya agrees not to take him to the hospital on the condition that Shane call his allergist right now about this new reaction he’s developed.
After a few rounds of investigation it turns out that Shane has not become allergic to the dog, but that he is allergic to the dog walker’s new treats.
