I decided to spend my last day of summer vacation binge watching queer with a happy ending movies.

Just Friends- Subtitled. Very chaotic plot. Peter Pan complexes all around. Complicated mother/son relationships while the dads were on a pedestal. Still working out how he got a tv with a vhs player on in a storage unit in 2018.

Handsome Devil - cute trope filled high school boys. Rugby. No actual romance. I am forever glad I did not grow up in a boarding school. Also, I genuinely love how Andrew Scott gives just a little sprinkle of Moriarty in every role.

Those People- I have no clue what I just watched. What even was the plot? Rich, manipulative kids being toxic and fighting. Idk if I would consider this a happy ending. It felt so rushed. Like we were in the middle of the story and they ran out of time or money and said whelp I guess we will end it here.

Maurice - Rupert Graves went whole hog. Listen…the plot was great. The lead (James Wilby) was really compelling. The movie was phenomenal. But my brain short circuited and went offline when Officer Greg Lastrade busted out whole hog. I am also forever glad I did not grow up in early 1900s England.

Will my back be sore from sitting around and doing very little all day? Yes, probably. Were there other things I could have been doing to get ready for work tomorrow? Also yes, probably. But I watch like 4 movies a year so me sitting around for a day is probably good for my chaotic soul. 🤍

every time I see those security measures, especially at the Pride I'm a part of, I'm reminded of how much the queer community is still hated and I hate it. I hate that we need those measures, I hate that we have to take them to protect ourselves, I hate that we live in a world where a celebration of love and happiness needs those security measures.

I can't even put words into how much this hurts. for something like this to happen to us, to happen in Berlin.

I find it incredibly hard to take seriously any modern era-set movie where a character carries a suitcase without wheels. Where do you even buy that sort of thing?!?

I watched Soul Mate (2026) today and I have a couple thoughts. They are going to come out garbled though.

1. I don’t care about the BL vs QPR. But that’s just me. If you are only looking for one thing in your m/m stories, there are options out there (but obviously not enough), regardless of what that one thing may be. If you are disappointed when a show doesn’t have that one thing, your feelings are valid. Go find something else to watch/read or create it yourself (and send me the link). Personally, I just want to see every single queer story told. All of them. Regardless of my feelings about the plot/romance/intimacy/ending. Tell all the stories. I want them to match or outnumber the cishet stories that exist.

2. Ryu presenting as possibly aro/ace was probably my favorite part of the whole thing. I kept dreading them having intimacy and they never did and I was so relieved. It is so rare and precious to me to see a character who could identify as aro/ace even if it isn’t explicitly stated.

3. We need the Heated Rivalries to balance Soul Mates. Now stick with me for a second. I think both pairs ending up driving and the juxtaposition of their fates while driving really seals it. One pair drives away knowing that things are going to end tragically, but they will do it together. The other pair sees a future, hope and a happy ending possibly, and they are going to do it together. We need queer stories with a happy ending. If we are constantly shown queer tragedy (or queer not happy open ending), it becomes ingrained that we don’t deserve a happy ending and that the only thing people want to see is the drama/tragedy of being queer. Even if Heated Rivalry isn’t over and they are going to face issues, it’s still a happy ending in a sense. Yes it’s opened ended bc there will be more. I don’t think Soul Mate needs more. I don’t want to watch Jonah die. I don’t need to see Ryu go through that. But I know it’s there at the end and I appreciate how they ended it where they did, facing the tragedy together bc they love each other. But let me have my Hollanov (and Scott/Kip) living happily ever after as a balance to Ryu/Jonah’s fate. I need queer joy like I need oxygen. I am an absolute sucker for angst with a Happy ending!!

I saw a video of someone complaining that fucking chicken tikka masala "wasn't healthy" so they made a "healthier version" that was, in fact, LESS HEALTHY. Because they made it with only fat free dairy products, rendering many of the vitamins they would have otherwise gotten from that meal utterly useless, because the body needs fats in order to absorb them properly.

Two tbsp of brown sugar does not render a meal "unhealthy." Full fat dairy products do not render a meal "unhealthy." Calorically dense foods do not render a meal "unhealthy."

If you're really concerned about your health, add more nutrients. Eat extra veggies or extra protein. But you're not actually worried about your health. You're worried about your weight.

You're worried that in the process of eating a homemade meal with lean protein and veggies and a rich, delicious sauce you will consume more energy than you can use today.

You're worried that energy might be stored so that your body can use it when it needs to later.

You're worried that your relationship with gravity might change. You've been taught to worry about that. You've been taught to misconstrue manufacturered body issues as being "health conscious." But you're not doing things to promote health. You're just trying to reduce your energy consumption no matter what.

And I am begging you to consider, that this is not actually a "health conscious" mindset at all.

just so we’re clear if you’ve never actually seen a cybertruck in person and have only seen photos of them i cannot stress enough how much worse they look in real life. like i honestly don’t know how it’s possible. most things look basically the same in pictures and in real life. but as stupid and ugly as cybertrucks look in photos, every person i’ve spoken to who has seen one in real life agrees that they somehow look even worse in person. and i know you’re thinking to yourself “tah they already look so bad in photos, how can they possibly look even worse in person?” I DONT KNOW. the first time i saw one on the road i was on a phone call and i literally cut myself off in the middle of a sentence just to be like “oh my GOD.” just an incredibly, laughably, unbelievably bad vehicle. i’ve never experienced anything like it. they’re just so bad

Went to PRIDE🌈 last night. It’s so nice to be able to feel like part of a super fun exciting community and hang out with strippers and puppies and furries and all the cool folx but then I had to wake up this morning and go back to being a perimenopausal suburban mom with a grocery list and a pile of laundry to do.
