The reason I am so critical of the “Well, I’m a minor!” excuse is because this defense is proof that an individual knew their behavior was wrong.
I have interacted with toddlers, children, and teens and never once have any of them defended their poor behavior with “Well, I’m a minor!”
Why? Because when it comes to how they interact with other people and how they judge them, an actual immature person who doesn’t understand the repercussions of their actions believes that people older than them would do the same thing. So, saying “Well, I’m a minor” doesn’t cross their mind because they don’t believe their judgement or behavior is exclusive to being a minor, they think they are doing what adults would do in that same situation. They usually explain their behavior with their reasoning, a reasoning they believe mimics the reasoning of older people.
If someone reacts to criticism with “Well, I’m a minor!” right out of the gate it indicates that they don’t believe an adult would do the same thing, which also means they have an understanding that their behavior or judgement was unsavory or inappropriate. They are now falling back on the excuse because they want to be able to continue to perform that behavior or issue that judgement without any repercussions.
They are manipulative. They know if they make a mistake, as all youths do, that people will think “Well, they’re young and stupid.” That’s not a bad thing. We all make mistakes, especially when we’re young and figuring things out. The problem is that instead of learning and growing out of continuously behaving poorly organically, they cling to it and actively use it to absolve themselves of any and all responsibility by consistently defending themselves with that excuse.

This is true, but in my limited experience, many people say “I am a minor” in response to perceived or actual harassment (sexual or otherwise) and bullying.
Being a minor doesn’t excuse bad behavior, and no one should be subject to harassment and bullying. That being said, grown ups have responsibilities toward children, and children are entitled to protection. As adults, we have a particular responsibility to be respectful to minors and do our part to keep their online experience safe and free from harassment and bullying.
Dude, if you’re going to start insinuating I think harassment is okay at least say it outright instead of trying to be sneaky in your tags. I don’t think anyone deserves to be harassed, whether they’re a minor or not and regardless of if I agree with them.
This post is about minors who send threats, harass, bully, and then try to turn around and cry “Well, I’m a minor!” when people say that’s inappropriate and hold them accountable. It’s about when they make excuses for poor behavior knowing full well what they did was wrong.
Keeping minors reasonably responsible when they sexually harass people, encourage their followers to harass others, send people gore, tell them to kill themselves, or otherwise exhibit abhorrent behavior is in fact a way through which adults can keep everyone’s online experience safe and free from harassment.

and what is “translate truthful to the time it was written” even supposed to mean like there’s no way a translation now in the US could be read the same way it was a couple thousand years ago in Greece when english didn’t even exist yet
Yep, in the original Odyssey, in the scene where Telemachus murders the slaves who were “sullied by” Penelope’s suiters, he refers to them with a word that roughly just means “the female ones”, however most translations will use words like “whores”, “sluts” and “creatures”, these were all choices of the translators. The original text did not refer to them that way. Dr. Wilson refers to them instead as “girls”, to highlight their age and the brutality of the action. She also fixed all the times the previous male translators dodged around the existence of slaves in the text. Where they call slaves anything but slaves (housemaid, nurse, cook, ect.) Dr. Wilson’s translation correctly calls them slaves as in the original texts. It’s really a great translation, it doesn’t soften anything, and lays bare the reality of the story. One thing she did too, was she refused to make the descriptions of the women in the story more palatable to modern western beauty standards. The original text, for example, describes Penelope’s hands as “thick”. Most male translators change this to “steady” but Dr. Wilson’s translation calls them “firm, muscular hands” to correctly portray the original intent, that Penelope, as a character who weaves every day and every night undoes her weavings, has strong hands, as weaving does make one’s hands more muscular, and that was clearly what was originally intended to be said given the context of her character and the weavings. Of Odysseus himself, the original epic calls him “polytropos” poly, meaning many, and tropos, meaning turn. Some male translators used this to say the story itself had twists and turns, other ignored the word completely to write in a way that made Odysseus seem as though a straight up hero, a man “skilled in all ways of contending”, but Dr. Wilson uses it to mean “complicated”, because Odysseus isn’t a straight up hero, he does some really shitty things. So her translation got a lot of men very very mad, because they said that her being a woman has caused her to translate with bias since her translation is so different to others. She pointed out that perhaps people should have suggested that bias in the inaccurate men’s translations. Anyway, go read Dr. Wilson’s version of The Odyssey. It’s very good.

Anyways, ace individuals are fine. There’s nothing of moral value negatively or positively in not experiencing sexual attraction. It is a frankly irrelevant piece of information, the same way I don’t care about how people experience any of other facet of their sex life or lack thereof. I do not judge people on how they feel about sex unless it deal with rape.
But I have major issue with anyone who claims that cisgender straight people who don’t feel sexual attraction have a spare orientation that magically makes them LGBT despite oppressing Lesbians, Gay Men, Bisexuals, and Trans and Nonbinary people. I have major issues with ace rhetoric sexualizing LGBT identities. I have major issues with ace rhetoric that you can healthily fuck people you aren’t sexually attracted to and date people you aren’t romantically attracted to, seeing as that is rhetoric taken directly from conversion therapy where LGBT people are told to forego their feelings and marry into a straight relationship and remain closeted.
I have issues with the idea that 10-18 year olds are being told that they are oppressed for being disinterested in sex or romance and that if you haven’t finished puberty yet, you’re LGBT and are Different From Your Peers which is fearmongering and just... fucking offensive.
I object to ace rhetoric that sexual orientation is about your relationship to sexual intercourse when sexual orientation/ the suffix sexual is about sex as in gender.
I have issues with the ace history of uses the holocaust imagery in their flags and symbols on AVEN. Of using stripes in their flags so people associate them with LGBT people “but not too much.”
I take issue with aces comparing cishet exclusion to TERFs excluding trans women from women’s spaces.When one is LGBT people protecting themselves from their oppressors and the other is cis people treating those they oppress like fucking shit and leading to actual real life violence and suffering.

When... validity means nothing. Just like the word asexual. Asexual can mean doesn’t experience sexual attraction (except if you’re grey, demi, cupio, lithro.. then yeah you can) but does experience romantic attraction, doesn’t experience ANY attraction (unless you’re grey, demi, etc), or just doesn’t want sex. Dysphoria isn’t just “hating your body.”
Sometimes it’s sadness. It’s crying for the child you never got to be. It’s lying in bed, wondering who you would’ve been, if only you were cis. It’s looking at a cis guy or cis girl and feeling hollow in your chest.
Sometimes it’s anger. It’s screaming at the sky, for the unfairness of it all. It’s wondering, “why me?” It’s lashing out and resenting your family and friends, because even if they try they will never understand the pain you go through, will never understand what using your name and pronouns and supporting you in your transition means to you.
Sometimes it’s numbness. It’s looking in the mirror and just feeling empty. It’s taking a shower and staring at the ceiling, hands going through the motions, forcing yourself not to look down. It’s pushing your friends away because you can’t feel it within you to laugh or care anymore. It’s seeing someone else and hearing someone else and people talking about someone else, not you.
Sometimes it’s fear. The fear of changing in front of someone, of doctor’s appointments, of looking in the mirror when you step out of the shower. It’s the knot in your throat when you hear someone call you the wrong name but you’re not brave enough to correct them. It’s the fear that you’ll never get to be yourself.
Sometimes it’s confusion. It’s being young and wondering why those pronouns feel so wrong, why your name doesn’t fit you, wondering why your body feels so wrong but not having the words you need to explain yourself. It’s walking past a store window and being genuinely puzzled, because for a second, even if just a second, you forgot that you were transgender. It’s expecting to see something but seeing something else entirely.
Sometimes it’s exhaustion. Sometimes it’s so damn hard and you just want to sleep and never wake up again. Even if you’ve just woken up in the morning, you still feel like the weight of the world rests upon your shoulders, and your shoulders alone. It’s the feeling that no matter how much you sleep, you will never wake up to a world where you will get to be who you are without going through so much pain and effort and money. It’s wishing that someone would just hold you and tell you that they love you no matter what, no matter what- they’ll support you and fight for you and call you the right things.

Okay, so they can use their own label. If they’re not women, they’re not lesbians. And if they think that being afab or being feminine means they can call themselves lesbians... then straight trans men can call themselves lesbians, and feminine straight men can call themselves lesbians.
Their (enbies) sex does not play a part in what label they use, their gender does. And they are very adamant on telling everyone that they’re Not Women, so they should stay away from using women’s terms. Masculinity and femininity doesn’t play a part either. Because again, with that logic, a feminine straight trans man would be just as much as a lesbian as an afab feminine nonbinary, and that’s incredibly fucking transphobic.
