by the way my feelings about AI are so so so different from any question of moral fiction or fandom etiquette and the perfect example for why that is can be summed up like this:

what we know in hindsight is that pokémon go yes that pokémon go was a profoundly evil product despite having an overall highly positive effect on the mental state, wellness, and social life of most people who played it

there was nothing problematic in the fiction or game concept of pokémon go. in fact I morally support all the public loitering and trespassing. but what made it evil is that the data collected by all the people innocently playing the game was used FOR THE FUCKING MILITARY, TO MAKE DRONES MORE EFFECTIVE.

if you told someone in 2016 that they had to stop playing their fun phone game or they would be materially supporting imperialism and genocide how might they have reacted! it’s fucking horrifying and absurd. pokemon actually was satanic the whole fucking time??? what??? but it’s true! ACAB INCLUDES POKÉMON GO

I consider genAI to be more obviously detrimental to its users and to the communities it poisons, but if it was wholly and completely positive the way pokemon go was, it could still be unbelievably evil in ways fannish teens and young adults are utterly unprepared to think about and discuss, because there isn’t an obvious aesthetic or narrative way to sense the problematic element

it’s not about the moral depravity of individual users, but the depravity of the system that created the product and their manipulation of our reality to make us all reproduce the systems of oppression we would otherwise hate and reject

hi im yasha and i hate to ebeg again but ive been feeling awful just awful because of the pressure from my family and financial struggle and other things. i can barely get out of bed. i stopped answering their calls but im afraid the little support i have from them is gonna stop bc of it im extremely paranoid and sad 24/7 and university is coming up. im really scared all the time. im scared i wont be able to make enough to last me through the winter. ive been trying to save up but i always need more for medical visits and medicine. i dont know what else to do. at minimum i need around 300€ to get through the month.
