No, actually, every single subject in the world is surrounded by completely different social circumstances and some things are inherently always going to be crueler and meaner to joke about than others. In some cases the SAME thing might even be crueler to joke about in one context than another, because that’s how our entire world fucking works. When people like you say “everything should be okay to joke about,” what are you honestly even trying to express? You are already “allowed” to joke about whatever you want and nobody anywhere is actually stopping you at gun point. You may in fact notice that I said “please don’t make this type of joke right now,” not “I am going to break down your door and handcuff you for making this type of joke right now.” This only leaves the possibility that, when you say everything should be “okay” to joke about, what you MEAN is that you don’t think you deserve to be judged for your conduct and nobody else should be allowed to say that you’re being a piece of shit. Unfortunately for you, just as I have no power to stop you from joking about abused and murdered toddlers, you don’t have any power to stop me from saying it makes you a trashy asshole, now do you?

100 years ago,  women were commonly infantilized as a way to dismiss their arguments without having to engage them.

but with women in elected positions being the norm nowadays, their policy proposals are carefully considered and they’re treated like adults

other common tactic to completely shut down an uppity suffragette was to dismiss her as being too old, ugly or airheaded to matter

thank god we left those attitudes back in the olden days where they belong!

in the previous century, the ideal woman upheld the status quo and it was considered virtuous, dammit
