Someone will say "as a queer person in the heart of empire, my life is in danger every day" and you'll find out they're a developer for Amazon and live in San Francisco or Seattle or some shit, and then you'll meet a trans girl from Alva, OK who's like "Yeah, things are pretty good. AutoZone moved me to full-time."
Someone in a queer group in my current blue city said that they didn't like expressions of solidarity because it "diluted their oppression".
#That's what I mean when I say the foundation of feminism and queer community should not fixate on victimhood #Once you feel that our suffering is our shared experience an not our love then our suffering becomes vital to the culture #I don't want a culture where suffering is vital #I want a culture where love is celebrated #The suffering is an imposition not a prerequisite #And yeah I sure fucking hope our oppression is diluted bitch you WANT us freebasing the uncut shit???
look upon my work, ye mighty, and this pear 🍐
"In all my years on this project I have NEVER seen a group of diplomats so DISRESPECTFUL..."
-Dr Ryland Grace, 2nd in Command of the Petrova Task Force, 30 minutes before the most hard-line opponents of the Hail Mary Project suddenly started walking on eggshells.
The sad, horrible fact of the matter is, Grace was never going to go home. He was never going to see his classroom again.
Even if everything had gone right. Even if Dubois and Shapiro had survived. Even if the mission went off without a hitch.
He was Stratt's right hand man. He was there for the bombing of Antarctica, the paving of the Sahara, and each and every terrible, terrible choice they were forced to do. He saw all of it, and at points was absolutely complicit. He even begged to be allowed to continue to work on the project.
If he had not gone on the Hail Mary, not been cemented in history as a hero (and later on, once the truth comes out, the sacrificial lamb), he would have been condemned right next to Stratt.
In the end, his ignorance was always his fatal flaw.
Me: Boy I sure hope I'm not overstepping by talking about being a sadist and wanting to put Simon on my torture rack.
Markiplier:
i think as a writer, the older you get and the more you read, the more you realize there are very few actual truly bad ideas. which is a relief. but! the other thing you learn is that stories live and die on the execution and ha ha. lemme tell you. unfortunately. there are lots and lots of bad ways to execute an otherwise fine idea
oh btw small thing - I belieeeve james ortiz mentioned on Some podcast Somewhere that they did film material with grace's ex but ultimately cut it, and if I were to guess I'd say this is probably her in the first flashback montage. she's standing right up next to grace as he watches the news report with the first footage of astrophage, and he's staring down at his phone with his earbuds in instead of playing it out loud and holding the phone between them for them both to watch this massive news event at the same time, which would line up with the two (2) lines we have about the relationship in the movie. there doesn't appear to be anyone else around in this space, the physical environment isn't forcing them to be so close, this looks like two people who are standing together for the purpose of deliberate socializing, and he's completely tuning her / the rest of the world out. if this is part of a pattern of behavior then I can totally see it being a "screw it, you're not even present for this conversation, let alone this relationship" last straw, but also imagine learning aliens exist then taking out your earbuds and immediately getting dumped, lol.
when people point out that "90% of fanfiction is garbage" as though this is something that reflects on fanfiction in particular and not something that is true of literally any kind of content in any medium and genre
“i love how we as a fandom have just agreed that–” don’t include me in this. do NOT lump me in with that.
In a perfect world the mummy 1999, night at the museum and national treasure all happen in the same universe and are connected
in universe after mark gets home he obviously does interviews about being on mars, and like, this logs are public domain by this point, but unlike us it isn’t Nicely Formatted Book With Breaks For NASA POV it’s Long Ass Science Document With a Lot of Useless Rambling
and like yeah theres a LOT of youtubers and documentaries and he’ll even movies about it, but that takes TIME! so for a while your average guy doesn’t really know what mark was doing on mars apart from what NASA was saying for i’m imagining a lot of interviews going like this:
Mark: I mean i made 600L of water so that was one thing i didn’t have to worry about too badly
Interviewer: wow that’s incredible- what do you mean by “make water”? how did you do that?
Mark: oh NASA hated this one: i burned hydrazine in the Hab and mixed it with oxygen!
Interviewer: … i’m sorry? How did you not blow yourself up??
Mark: easy, i did blow myself up.
