i sometimes wonder how many people remember how recent dating and committed partnerships are. going out on dates wasnt popular until the 1920s. going steady didnt get popular until after ww2. but people act like having a bf/gf has been around forever for some reason. people are so unforgiving towards us for not wanting a kind of partnership that didnt even exist 100 years ago. most people throughout history never dated anyone. i sometimes wonder how many people remember that.

one thing that does often actually genuinely break my heart about aromanticism is that it opens so many ontological pathways to methodologies that would unilaterally improve people's lives but most people can't even be bothered to learn about aromanticism much less apply those lessons to themselves

being aromantic (and being aspec in general) prompts you to unlearn the thought that a romantic relationship is going to fulfill you in a way that nothing else can. to unlearn that your worth is tied to your desirability. to unlearn that your life is defined by love. it prompts you to restructure your relationships. to reevaluate the ways in which the people around you contribute to your life and the ways in which you want to engage with them. it shows you that everything we know about relationships is defined by social constructs that don't need to be heeded. it opens you to a life of such blissful freedom and i feel such a sense of grief for the way that this information never seems to get beyond us

I've identified as aro for a long time but only recently knew I was romance repulsed This is on account of accidentally attracting like...a lot of people. I love being close and physical with my friends but as soon as the relationship becomes anything other than platonic it feels gross :/

I am still questioning my sexuality. I don't have any innate idea of what I could be, so I've decided the best course of action is to gain experience. The problem is, romance and sex overlap so much for most people that it's hard to have one and not the other. I want to find sexual experiences that I enjoy but it's always overshadowed by the romantic parts that ick me out.

Idk what to do here. Should I like...try to only have sex with other alloaros?? Is there something I'm doing wrong that always puts me in uncomfortable situations? Or am I actually ace?

Its tough to answer that for you. Im an aromantic asexual. I tried dating but I hated it. Ive never had sex because I dont want to and the thought of being intimate like that with another person freaks me out. When it comes to romance and sex, you understand that you dont HAVE to try it if you dont want to right? Also, asexual is just not experiencing sexual attraction to other people. Many Ace people enjoy the act of having sex still, it has nothing to do with whether or not you like it. Any lovelies have advice?
