As well as attending the Madrid première of S2 of The Lord of the Rings on Prime 😊✨💍⚔️ with Pilar Erika on August 26th, as part of the Sociedad Tolkien Española and cosplaying as an Eregion Noldorin Elf OC (me) and a Númenórean OC, we also got our authors copies of a newly published book of essays on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Tolkien's death: JRR Tolkien en el reino peligroso by Legendaria Ediciones, a book for which we have each written an article 😊📚✨📜 . Pilar Erika's is about Tolkien's prose translation of the epic poem Beowulf, including a thorough comparative discussion of several other translations of Beowulf and how they compare to Tolkien's. Mine is an analysis of gender roles in the Noldorin Elven society of the First Age, focusing on characters such as Míriel Therindë and Nerdanel, and how their narrative arcs showcase both the limitations of their supposedly utopian society, and how they subvert gender norms in different ways, and what this can tell us about the constructed nature of societal gender roles and the nuance of approaching Tolkien's work from a feminist pov 📚♀️⚔️ . ✨📚Find this book here✨📚

Um, that was back in 2019 that I first tried to share my story, and I reached out to a handful of journalists and I had several conversations off the record, but... Yeah, that message I got, across the board, was pretty much that what happened to me wasn't enough to establish a pattern of behavior. Because I was just one person, and back then everyone was looking for a serial rapist, right, like not one-off creeps."
"So when the journalist said what happened to you isn't enough to establish a pattern of behavior, what I heard, of course, was that what happened to you wasn't enough. And I was really shaken by that experience."
"It turns out – I wasn't the only one. Uh, three weeks ago from the date of this recording, uh, two other women came forward with allegations against him of rape and sexual assault. And one is – was in 2002, and the second in 2022. So my experience falls right in the middle of that, in 2012, and – that's a pattern! just so we're clear: multiple authors and professionals in the publishing industry have known about neil gaiman's predatory behavior for years. this isn't a smear campaign, this isn't some convoluted conspiracy—this has been going on for a long, long time.

at how antis derogatorily nicknamed the Rings of Power Galadriel "Guyladriel" when one her nicknames in her youth was literally Nerwen, which meant "man-maiden".
If you're complaining Galadriel is too "masculine", is too brash, proud and full of herself, and therefore unlike the books, you're showing your hand as not knowing the books as well as your think.
The literal Plot A to B to C of her arc is one of a proud, ambitious and very flawed elf, who wanted a realm of her own to rule exactly as she willed it, with no one to teach or guide her, who ended up in exile from Valinor as a result of her pride, and was only able to return home because she proved she had grown in humility and wisdom by rejecting the One Ring.
