Trees are a social construct. This is a fairly broadly understood concept now, right? Like y'all understand now that "tree" is not a taxonomical category, but a social one. Because there is no way to classify what traits are required for a plant to be a "tree" in a way that includes all the plants we call "trees" and excludes all the plants we do not call "trees." "Fish" is another example of this. But this does not mean that trees and fish do not exist.
This is what we mean when we say that "sex is a social construct." And it's disappointing how many people on our side even misunderstand that. Sex being a social construct does not mean it isn't real. It just means that it can't be a biological category, and its a crime to science that it currently is considered to be one. Every biologist who refuses to recognize this and continues to insist that "sex" is a biological category instead of a social one is doing a disservice to science, which becomes very evident when you ask them to define "sex." It quickly falls apart in exactly the same way that "tree" does when you try to biologically define that.
Like, they'll usually say something like "female humans have xx chromosomes, and estrogen-dominated endocrine system, enlarged breasts, a uterus, a vulva, and a vagina. Sounds reasonable, right? Except that there are people who do not meet one or more of those categories who are also definitely female. When someone gets a hysterectomy, do they stop being female? What about if they're born without a uterus but meet all those other categories? This is actually not uncommon. What about people who have xy chromosomes but meet all the other categories? Another thing that is not uncommon, and I am not just talking about trans women, there are a lot of cis women who are born with a y chromosome that is not expressed for various medical reasons. Defining "male" also has the exact same problems.
While sex is very obviously a social construct, as demonstrated above, it is also very obvious that it has very real effects on people's lives. Social constructs are real. The reason we point out that something is one is because social constructs are changeable, they are not immutable physical categories. We, as a culture, decide how to define a social construct, and we can change that definition at any time.
Honestly if Trans Guys want Forcemasc, mechsploitation, and handler over weapon stories focused on men there really is no shortage of that shit in military sci-fi.
Like just get into Halo or Warhammer.
