I know there are plenty of fingerless gloves out there but I have been asked so many times for the pattern I use to make mine that I have had to write it down because I'm fed up of saying "Sorry it is only available in my brain".
For this pattern I used Red Heart Super saver but any Aran/Worsted weight is sufficient.
You will also need a 5mm hook as well as scissors and a sewing up needle. You could also add some buttons or a flower to it if you are feeling adventurous.
These gloves can be adapted to make any size you like by increasing or decreasing the amount in the starting chain so that it fits around you fingers. I suggest making the chain slightly smaller than your hand as most wool has a bit of stretch to it and will fit snuggly to start with but then may become very loose. On the same note I find that Caron Simply soft doesn't have as much stretch in it as other wools so you might want to make that so it fits your hand and not slightly smaller :)
This pattern is written in US terms.
HDC - Half Double Crochet.
HDC2tog - Half Double Crochet two together.
SC in second chain from hook and in the remaining chain (24 stitches). Join to first SC with a slip stitch.
(I do it this way as it makes it easier to join with a slip stitch and you can see clearly that it isn't twisted)
Chain 2, HDC in first SC (same place as chain 2) HDC around (24 stitches) Slip stitch into first HDC.
Repeat this round 4 more times. A total of 5 rounds of HDC. (If you like you could add more rounds to make it longer, or shorter if it's too big/small for your fingers).
Now we come to the thumb hole.
Chain 7 (once again, more or less depending on the size of your thumb) skip the next stitch (see picture below), SC in next stitch and then HDC in the remaining 21 stitches. There is no need to join with a slip stitch anymore and the remaining rounds will be worked continuously.
HDC in the next 7 chains, then HDC in the SC and also the remaining HDC's of the round (29 stitches).
HDC2tog, HDC in next 3 stitches, HDC2tog (around thumb hole) HDC in next 22 stitches (27 stitches).
HDC2tog, HDC in next stitches, HDC2tog (around thumb hole) HDC in next 22 stitches (25 stitches).
HDC in next stitch, HD2tog, HDC in remaining 22 (24 stitches).
HDC around (24 stitches) for 4 rows. (Once again you can make them longer here if you'd like them to go further up you arms)
And there we have it. A really simple pair of fingerless gloves. So easy to make and adapt for anyone in your family. And they make great last minute Christmas gifts as they are so quick to make ;)
I hope you enjoyed and if you have any questions with regards to the pattern please do no hesitate to contact me.
