An amazing Ukrainian artist and a great person Kiki ( @kikichuchundra ) recently passed away. Her art inspired many people, including me. Kiki brought light in other's lives, she was a very cheerful person, a ray of sunshine in this world.

In loving memory of Kiki, me and Hachiko @hachikojesus want to invite you all - her fans, friends and just people who care - in a little project. The idea is to draw her favourite characters, things and themes Kiki loved and if you want, add a message from yourself. Words of respect or something that was sadly left unspoken.

We're doing it with a consent of her family. Our goal is to bring attention to her art, to remember her and moments with her, to show our love, and also help her family. Kiki and her genuine passion about art, her contribution to Ukrainian art community will never be forgotten.

I have heard of black people warning their kids that the race of a police officer is cop and you should not expect solidarity from them. The same applies to other types of minorities.

The sexuality of a police officer is cop.

The gender of a police officer is cop.

When you become the enforcer and protector of capital, you are making the deal to be slightly favored by the system over others like you, in exchange for being its servant. Your solidarity is with the system that you serve, even if it hates you.

If you want solidarity with those the system hates, you cannot be the system's servant and defender.

draw a still life. practice some poses. sketch some naked people. do a color study. try out a different technique on a basic shape.

art block doesnt stop you from drawing, it stops you from making your drawings look the way you want them to. and thats because you need to push your skills to the next level so you can preform at that standard

think of it as level grinding for your next work.

As a scientific illustrator- this is 100% true and going to review your basics will fix it every goddamn time.  Not only does it keep your skills sharp, when you’re not emotionally invested in the final product of a piece, you relax and your brain makes more/better art juice for you.  So, when you get back to that big/important piece?  You’ll know what to do and how to do it.

Nothing in nature blooms all year round.  Rest, and take care of yourself.

Write a description of an object. write the weather today. Write a made up characterization of a random photo of an actor from the internet as to the character they are in that picture. Write a little story about your pet’s day. Write about spilling soup and make it super dramatic and tragic. Write about someone’s day being ruined and make it funny. Write a meetcute coffeeshop AU of two OCs you’d never put together- maybe from different stories. Write them breaking up.

Write a bunch of short stuff meant for no audience ever and super duper self indulgent.

I found out relatively recently that it really helps if I write short fiction surrounding the novels I write. Like oh? I’m stuck for a bit? Ooh there was that section I wanted to explore but doesn’t fit in the plot really. There was that what-if that could never happen in the actual story but would be fun to explore. It keeps me in the characters’ headspace (tho that’s not always what I’m needing) but not right where they are exactly.

Yes! I have gotten past writers’ block multiple times by writing drabble collections. Making something coherent happen in just 100 words is a very different challenge from writing a long story and it also lets me get past plot points that I don’t want to explore in-depth.

I am also going to have to start drawing studies now…

Most trans women do have harmful patriarchal ideas that they need to unlearn in my experience but those ideas aren’t male entitlement but instead minimizing themselves due to being women. A lot of early transfems have internalized the idea that they have to be meek and hold themselves to unrealistic beauty standards and can’t ever speak up for themselves. The whole “‘male socialization” nonsense has the whole issue backwards. Young transfems need feminism not to minimize themselves more.

a trend in rhetoric ive been seeing a lot recently for some reason is when someones work is criticized for some implicit bias, others will come to their defense, and usually they start off with the typical "how do you KNOW this specific person had BAD INTENTIONS" arguments that completely dodge the issue at hand

But. and this is the part ive been puzzling over. oftentimes when the defenders have the critique explained to them further, they eventually come to a point (either out of frustration or genuine desire to understand, ive seen both) where they agree that the source shows a bias, they agree the bias is harmful, buuuuutttt... well why do we have to criticize THIS instance. the bias is so common, its basically mundane. why make a big deal out of it.

and i think to some extent its a logical progression of treating every pointing-out of bias like a character assassination, but the very argument itself relies on an understanding that these things arent limited to individual bad actors? its like instead of moving the goalpost youre flat out claiming the other teams goal as your own

and the counterarguments are so obvious im not sure anyone could actually believe their own stance once they get there, hence why i think it only shows up as a last resort or a thought-terminating cliche. like... no, nobody gets a free pass to have their bias go uncommented on just because the bias is common. in fact that makes the problem MORE important to talk about. talking about it to any meaningful degree will require concrete examples and those examples cant all be evil foaming-at-the-mouth bigots or people will just ignore their own complicity. and so on and so forth

& i think once we get to the point where we're arguing "but why point out the bias right NOW" we do actually know all of those things. but the lingering desire to shield Someone We Like from what registers as a "public shaming" makes us scrape the bottom of the logical-fallacies barrel. and the fucking thing is that half the time the person being criticized isnt even in the room and the thing that inspired this post was peoples reactions to criticism of the xkcd comic that talks about the labor going into household items but doesnt mention a single blue-collar job
